If you could have a completely custom made bass, for free..

    what would your specs be?

Mine would be a 7 String Warwick Bolt-on Thumb.

    - 35" scale
    - Two Bartolini MM-style humbuckers w/ Wood Pickup covers, matching top.
    - Locking Tuners
    - Kahler Tremolo
    - Flame Maple top stained natural and matching headstock.
    - ebony Fretboard
    - abalone bass clef inlays, and abalone binding.
    - tuned BEADGCF
    - Black Hardware
    - Green LED fret markers on the side for live shows... (its so annoying when the lights are going mach three and you cant see you fret board during hat hard taping part.)

mine would be a bubinga body fender jazz with burled maple top, ebony fingerboard on maple neck, bad ass II bridge, basslines SJB-3's and i have to agree with the bass clef inlays.
  3. A gorgeous Zon in purple stain or somesuch color- 4 string, bartolinis, nice preamp, etc.

Also, an 8-string with a special saddle pickup system so the octave strings could have their own channel.
  4. Well, i know its COMPLETELY un-creative but:

    Quilted Maple Jazz bass body
Blue Dye Finish, Gloss Black back
Maple Neck, Ebony Fingerboard with matte black back
    Reverse Headstock, matte black
    Bassline Quarter pound Jazz Pickups
    Badass II bridge
The word "meat" at the 12th fret (its my nickname)

thats it, uncreative but my dream

I'm already having it made. :smug:

    Modulus Quantum 5
    chechen fingerboard
    Velvet blue over red finish
    5A bookmatched quilted maple top
    Bart/Aggy 3-band elec's w/ black h/w
    400/800HZ mid sweep switch
    Active/passive switch
    3-way coil tap
    satin finish neck

  8. 6 string, maple/purpleheart NT w/Spanish cedar chambered body & afzelia burl top, mac ebony fretboard & PU covers over Aero split-coils, Aggie 3-band and passive tone control, string-through or top-load hipshot bridge & tuners w/detuner on the B, oil finish & satin silver hardware & flush-mount straplocks. Singlecut, wide-spaced , 34" scale, executed superbly by Chris Stambaugh. Satin poly finish. I can't get to my pics right now, so of course it's totally imaginary. :) For now, here's pics of my semi-matching fretless.
  9. 6 string with EMG tws + piezo
walnut burl top, maple body, figured bubinga back,in a single cut shape, nitrocelulose finish, maple/wenge/padauk/wenge/maple set neck, padauk fretboard, padauk knobs, Abalone inlays and side dots with white led back lighting , schaller roller bridge, hipshot ultralight tuners, am i forgetting anything?
  10. 6 String Fretted bass
    South AfricanMahogany Body
7 piece neck ( Purpleheart, Mahogany, Bloodwood lams)
    3 Bartolini pickup system
    Cocobolo Fingerboard
    TI Jazz flats
    35" Scale

Should be getting it built soon by thorbass as soon as I gather up the money for the down payment :hyper:
  11. I was talking with Bill Conklin a few months back and he had seen a 7 string trem, but didn't say more than that. I know Kahler has done a few protototypes, but I'm not aware of anything beyond that.

I have a 4 string with a Kahler and it's nothing to really brag about. The 5 string version is entirely too narrow. I have heard that the 5 and 6 were pretty stiff as is.

hmm...let me think for a minute

-Pomelle cocobolo top and back (basically quilt cocobolo)
f-lame maple body with wenge mid-body lam
    -wenge accent layers
    -9 piece neck wenge/flame maple/bloodwood/flame maple/wenge\flame\bloodwood\flame\wenge
    -neck thru
-pomelle cocobolo finger with flame maple binding and blocks
    -matching pickup covers (cocobolo)
    -nordstrand DC humbuckers pickups
    -audere 4 band preamp
    -ETS MK-III bridge in gold
    -6 strings
    -hipshot ultralites in gold
    -strings through body
    - 35.5" scale length

hmm...maybe I have thought about this bass too much.

It's also too bad that the bass would cost almost $2k in parts alone!

    Status Kingbass Artist model:

    -32" scale
    -headless with Bendwell
    -two Status Hyperactive Humbuckers
    -black hardware
    -blue LED's
-flamed maple top with a tangerine finish.

Or an Alembic Stanley Clarke Deluxe, with the same colour scheme and top wood, but with Series II electronics, brass hardware and obviously with a headstock. The headstock would not be matching, however, I'd rather just have it black with an brass alembic logo inlaid.

    Set neck
    Darkstar pickups.

  18. Here's to GAS.....

The next one will be a fretless Conklin 6 with a dymondwood fingerboard. ETA approx 90 days.

I also have a fretless CB 4 that will be done sometime next spring, I think.

I'll probably be ordering a Rob Allen MB2 6er after I get my Conklin.

I haven't ordered anything with frets for a while........

    On the GAS list:
Rob Allen Deep 5 33" scale high C fretless, Rob Allen MB2 32" scale high fretless, Hamer 32" scale 12 string (fretted), CB fanned (37-34" scale) 7 string, Stambaugh fretless 7, Curbow fretless 7. CB fretless 32" scale non-paired 8.....

Those should keep me busy for a while, eh?

    It'd look exactly like this:

  20. Deluxe 5 P. Bass ala Nino Valenti with a twist..

    • Swamp Ash Body

    • 24 frets (Birdseye Maple fingerboard on Maple Neck)

    • 5+0 headstock configuration

    • Dual Passive SD BassLines Phase II Humbuckers

    • Hipshot Bass Tremolo / TK Bridge

    • Gotoh GB7 LC Tuners (cause Schallers belong on MM)

    • Passive 3 Band EQ (keep it nice and simple)

    • Schaller Straplocks

    • No pickguard (72 isn't my style)

    • Chrome Hardware....no gold for me,I ain't a showoff.

    TBC in 2009....hopefully.
