If you could design your perfect bass what would it be like?

Mine.. might be a black limba body, 5A flame top stained royal blue with natural colored binding. A graphite neck to match the limba body. Gold hipshot hardware and EMG 35p4 pickups.
  2. alembic series II fretless 5
macassar ebony neck stringers + top/back lams

:meh: Almost got me, chap. Must.. resist... GAS...

Ok, who am I fooling, we all have GAS ;)

I'd really like a Jerzy Drozd Mastery 6 with ash body, quilt bubinga top, wenge-bubinga neck and pau ferro fingerboard, two-piece bridge, black hardware, triple coil Barts with Aguilar OBP 3... :smug:

Or maybe a Fodera Emperor with some unusual, sick birdseye maple or some nice spalt maple top on ash body, maple FB with blueish/turquise-colour pearl blocks, Aero triple coils and Mike Pope preamp

    One, I already have.

    The other:

    5 string
    35" scale
    24 frets
    2.15" nut
    17mm string spacing at bridge
    Chunky neck (Spector-esque)
Single passive P pickup in neck position
    Control comprises of two switches:
-Direct to jack/routed through a capacitor so as to sound like a P with the tone knob rolled all the way off.
    Hipshot A bridge
    Gotoh GB7 tuners

    Alder body w/ black finish
3 piece bolt on neck- Maple/Purpleheart/Maple (gloss finish)
    Matching headstock
    Rosewood fretboard.

    And then I'd be done.
  9. Something blueburst.
  10. Mark, I have to say I've never been a huge fan of the Conklin Sidewinder shape, but the beveling on the red one has opened my eyes a bit wider. They add an additional touch of "sleekness" to the body.

As for mine, I once spec'd out a "Dream Gecko" (2, actually - one fretted, one fretless) with the following:
    • Body - Gecko 5, ash w/ quilted maple top, redburst finish on the fretted, blueburst on the fretless.
    • Neck - Gecko 5 small, maple/Purpleheart w/ pau ferro fingerboard, jumbo stainless steel fretwire on the fretted, matching blue inlaid lines on the fretless w/ Birchwood-Casey "Tru-Oil" coating, matching SimS front and side L.E.Ds, matching quilted maple peghead veneer, Gecko inlay. :D
    • Electronics - Basslines ASB-5 and ASB2-5 Active Soapbars, Aguilar OBP-3 Onboard Preamp.
    • Hardware - Takiuchi TK5 bridge, Gotoh GB-7 tuners, Neutrik locking output jack, Dunlop flush-mount Straploks.
    • D'Addario ProSteel (fretted) and Nickel roundwounds (fretless), 45-130
    • The talent worthy of playing it ;)

Can't limit it to just one! I like lots of things that are mutually exclusive. But if I did, it would probably be a semi-hollow carved-top Curbow 6 with RMC piezos as well as Barts, zebrawood top and headstock, and would be shaped something like this:

After that, something in blueburst. ;)

Mine would be a Marchlewski SC 5 with a subtle but pretty spalted maple top over a mahogany body, maple neck with ebony board, Bartolini soapbars and actives. If i can't have that I want a Salas NT 5 with Chinese Birdseye elm on top of an alder body, maple neck, ebony board.
  16. Warmoth Jazz 5 neck, with Warmoth headstock
5-piece construction, wenge with purple heart stripes
Pau Ferro fingerboard with abalone diamond inlays and bone nut.
    Matching Figured Bubinga headstock overlay.

Warmoth Dinky J body with rounded contours, in lightweight mahogany with the highest figured Quilted Bubinga you can imagine. All natural, hand rubbed oil stain finish. TK5 bridge, all black hardware.

Electronics would be Aero Dual coils (prolly robbed from a fodera) with either a U-Retro or Aggie OBP-3 preamp, and coil splitters for both pickups. Strung with D'addarios.

And of course, i would have to have Nino build it for me. :bassist:
