Your custom/signature amp.

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by Bigfeet, Aug 26, 2001.

  1. A little while back here on talkbass, barroso (sorry if I mispelled your name) did a thread about your signature bass it did really well. I'm sort of stealing his Idea well completly ripping it of, what would your signature/custom amp be?

Heres what mine would feature:

750w of power at four ohms

Two foot switchable chanels with controls for Gain, Drive (pull out for distortion), Lows (+/- 12dB@pull out for switches between 80Hz and 50Hz) with presence control, a bypassable sweepable mid range for just highs and lows(+/- 15dB@200Hz-900Hz), sweepable highs (+15dB/-19dB@2kHz-10kHz) and master volume control

Switches for pad -15dB, mid bypass(shuts of mid control), bright (on input signal +7dB@2kHz), and ultra low (on input signal +2.5dB@50Hz, -12dB@560Hz, +2.5dB@7kHz)

All tube

two bypassable effects loops (one for each chanel)

An extension line in for another chanel Use another preamp

stereo ampable (two cabs)

    I think it's cool

    A 750 W tube amp?

You will need a flatbed truck to move it :D

  3. I didn't mean all tube just the preamp section the power would be Mosfet.

These guys imply that one person (or maybe
    a gorilla :p ) could lift their amp -
Ooo...They finally got a pic of the Spectrum (click it for a bigger shot :D )

I don't know about an amp, but what I want is a 1x24 or 1x36 speaker cab. Ahhhhhh infrasonic waves.

holyjeez... that thing lists for $13,800.... that's a whole lotta cash

  8. here's mine, pretty simple

    300 watts
    all tube
Similar schematics to a B15 portaflex
    O-Drive
Semi Parametric EQ (same as my A.M.P. BH-420)
    low boost, high boost
    "cut boost": boost around 800hz
    bi-ampable (100w and 300w)
    balanced+unbalanced line outs
speaker outs (with both speakon and common jacks)

lets see...here's exactly what i need, in order of signal path:

    All tube preamp
    4 band parametric EQ
    simple tube compressor
all tube 10w initial power stage with output/drive control (controllable via footswitch)
    XLR direct out w/output control
two channel 1000 watt class H power supply w/biamp capability

so, basically, an SWR interstellar overdrive with a parametric, compressor, and stewart world 1.2.

but having that in one head would KILL. 3 rack spaces, built like a tank, speakon connectors...

have it list for 1500 bucks too while we're at it :)

There is only one feature which I have not seen on any amp so far, but which would be very helpful:
A DI output 'post FX' and 'pre EQ' (with parallel and blendable FX-loop of cause) - opposed to the options 'pre FX and EQ' or 'post FX and EQ'
The reason is, that I us the EQ only for adapting my stage sound to room acoustics and do not want to send the EQ-ed signal to the PA.

    I hope this makes sense...
