You might need to ask this question at the Dudepit (or just lurk through the Darkstar posts). I think "Pitters" are the only bass players that have these pups ...
I have a set on order. Should be here soon. It'll probably be another couple of months before I get the bass done hough.
Hi: I just received a set of DS-3s, into a 34" scale bass. Will post full report when luthier finishes the project. It's going to be set up like the Joe Osborn Lakland Dark Star bass Phil Anderson Tucson, AZ
Try this. One of my customers put this together along with a bunch of other bass and pickup combo clips. I believe this is of a butterscotch '51 P reissue that I modded a while back. It's since been pimped out to pale blue.... but you're interested in tone I think. '51 P reissue with a DS pickup. {} {}
Anyone tell me how the DS performs in real world stage condtions when solo-ed? the hum from lights etc is one reason i moved away from classic jazz style basses
I played the decade.. It sounded really really good. Extremely clear.. You just need to play one to understand.
All i know is that as soon as the 5 string version comes out, i'm getting a stealth 51' P with two in it.
I got a rather nice email from Ken Warmoth awhile back asking for the routing dimensions. They've got them now and have done at least one bass body for DS pickups that I know of. I've heard it's better to talk to people in the "custom" department about this as there may be an extra charge and some of the folks in the other departments may not have all the latest info. Try to talk to Ken if you can.
I played the Lakland Decade with the Dual Darkstars at the NYC GTG and that bass tone has stuck in my head ever since. It's just awesome!!!!! That's the only way I can describe it. I can't compare it to any other bass sound I've heard before.
Bless you for that Nino and thanks for posting your comments in the Dark Star Forum too. Please come back and visit anytime! I'm going to have to hear a Decade myself sometime... Maybe at the winter NAMM here in L.A.
