    Mick Karn:
He's one of the few guys who actually plays fretless like a fretless. His lines DEPEND on the fretless - they'd never work on a fretted bass. I love that - there so slinky and rubbery. Awesome.

    Manring:
His fretless work is dead on amazing.

    Willis:
Simple awesome melodicism AND killer low B grooves!

    *homer voice* DOH!

Can't believe I forgot Pino! Good call.

  14. Mick Karn, although I'm discovering Percy Jones' playing- apparently he was an influence on Karn.

also; Derek Forbes, who used a fretless P bass quite a lot with Simple Minds- getting an unusual Mick Karn-meets-JJ Burnel sound on songs like "sweat in bullet",

    David J (Bauhaus/Love & rockets),

    Paul Webb (Talk talk).

  16. I really like bakithi Kumalo, (Paul Simon's bass player), in addition to some of the others already mentioned. His playing on Graceland is just gorgeous.
