Fair enough, I still like LTE :) , but thats just my opinion. I see what you mean when you say 'souless' but The songs are still interesting, and what do you think about the Second LTE album, or maybe you didnt listen to it...

But it sounds like you would like Tony McAlpine, and Virgil Donati, they sound like your 'type'.

Awesome, Pain of Salvation is EXACTLY WHAT YOU WOULD LIKE.

One more... Eric Johnson? VERY clean, he has 'soul' like Tony McAlpine and he can shread like Satriani, but he is cleaner than any guitarist I have EVER heard. If you never heard of him, Hear of 'em. :D

  11. Smash, if you can find someone who has LTE 2 you should ask to borrow it (that way if you hate it you don't lose any money, just a little more time.)

Much better than the first CD overall (IMO), as well as in some of the specific areas you mentioned.

I don't listen that much to progressive..
But I like Lord Only and Dream Theater. I haven't heard that much from Rush, Opeth, King Crimson and Spiral Architect but what I've heard is excellent.

Cynic, in my opinion, is/was the best prog band ever. It lacks the repetitive nature of most dream theater wank/riff fests and seamlessly blends fusion jazz, metal and latin grooves together..too bad there were just too many things working against them.

Still, if you can find their CD Focus, I suggest you buy it. Also, Sean Malone is a super nice guy and awesome player.

  14. Evergrey( so dark and moody)
    Dream Theater (musical gymnastics)
    Meshuggah

HEhehehehehe Many many of my favs allready mentioned. Though my own personal list is, in no particular order.

    Dream Theater
    Rush
    Tool
    Mudvayne
    Evergray
    Pain of Salvation
    Fates Warning
    Symphony X
    Opeth
    Meshuggah
    Liquid Tension Experiment
    Tony Levin
and many many others I cant think of at them moment.

It's one of my favorite styles of music. I think mainly because it usually has a very epic sort of feel to it, like some of the Power and death metal I like. It reminds me of videogames, which is the main reason why I got into prog. Hehehe.... Most people get confused when I say that.
