Your first bass vs. what you play now

My first bass was a butt ugly white Aria Pro II Laser Electric Classic active bass with ultra high action.

When I look back at playing on it, compared to my current bass, an Ibanez Mikro, it was a living hell to play on and didn't even had that great a tone.

Non the less I managed to play on it for several years, in various constelations, even used it when I played in a fast paced Mathrock/Hardcore piece that required for me to do a lot of chords and relatively fast runs.

Anyway it is now converted to a piccolo slide bass, and I am really happy with my Mikro that just plays like a dream, and in my opinion has a better tone, even if I haven't swopped the stock pickups with better ones yet.

Me too. But I haven't been at it all that long like some of the guys around here.

Got plenty of other basses, but I'll probably keep the first one I got too.

My first bass was an Ibanez, which influenced me not to buy another Ibanez haha.

After that I got a Warwick Rockbass and I don't see myself using anything but a Wick as a main bass from now on. Have a custom shop in the works right now

The first I ever played was a 60s JB loaner that belonged to my cousin.

The first bass I ever purchased was a brand spankin' new '74 Ripper which I got in April 1974. It's still my main bass today. And my forum avatar.

my second bass a couple years later which was a Polar White Ibanez Musician 924. Awesome bass. I bought it brand new on layaway and kept it for more than a decade. Loved the versatility of the tones that bass could produce. Only drawback was the weight. It weighed a ton.

That was bass number four for me, my first active bass, around 1982. Funny, I don't remember it being heavy and even now I can recall, with hindsight, that the active circuit was a bit 'rough' but it was one of the few affordable basses that had an active circuit. I strung it with Roto Superwounds (the early ones that you had to loop through a grommet) and loved the neck. Plus, it looked hot!

My first bass, a 4-string Magnum Jazz, was purchased in the early 1980's.

Presently, my primary basses, which are all 5-stringers, include a Warwick Streamer Jazzman LX 5, Warwick Corvette ProLine 5 and EBMM Stingray H 5.

The first bass I played was a friend's Stagg, a cheap (I wanna say Warwick) lookalike, can't even remember what the pup config was. Anyways, borrowed it for like a week so I can audition for the band I'm in now, so it certainly had a purpose!

I got my first bass after getting in the band, and it was a Yamaha BB414. Not a bad bass by any stretch, I even swapped out the pup for an SD quarter pounder after a while (dumb move IMO, would never use that pup again, but you live and you learn). I learned I'm just not a Yamaha guy.

Now I play a Fender precision (EMG GZR), Music Man S.U.B. (USA made) and a custom made PJ bass (that I'm selling).

First bass was a Japanese semi hollow with broke tuners,pickup nailed in place and a plywood patch hiding a hole in the body where the pots were,it was nailed too.
Cost £1 and I used pliers to tune the 10-15 year old strings It was followed by a Kay branded Teisco shortie then a store brand Japanese P bass.

35 years and must be 70 basses later P bass is what I go for,prefer Peaveys.Kinda handy cause there's 16 hanging on the wall but the European version of the Douglas Pisces
(Thomann PB-50) sees plenty of use.
