I bought this bass online for my first project. I figured that it would be one of the easiest ways to break into building, especially since the guy I bought it from did everything except electronics, finish sand and finish. I bought it with the idea of learning a little bit and then more than likely selling it online as money is kinda tight for me right now and my gf would kill me if she knew I bought it. I would love to get opinions of the bass as it looks in the pic and suggestions for electronics, finish and even value once it's finished. Also, I've included his description of the bass from the ad. (custom made Curly Walnut fretless bass project with Purple Heart neck thru, Goncalo Alves fingerboard, Rosewood bridge and Ebony nut. Its routed for two standard J style pickups ) Thanks
I guess I need opinions on the best type of pups for fretless and maybe a recommended brand. Also, the body and neck still has dings in it so I wouldn't mind some input as to what grit paper I should start with and work down to. I'd like to brush the finish. I think I have read enough threads on TB to get an idea of what to use there so I think with that I am set. But any input is much appreciated. Also, I was thinking about keeping it fretless but adding fret markers (don't know if that's exactly what they are called). I'd love to know what most fretless players prefer. I think that it's, for now Thanks again, Devin
Wow, I really like the look of the Ritters. I'm kinda new around here so I haven't really seen them before. I actually really like the sorta dull finish that I saw on a black one. I might have to do something like that in the future, though probably not with this one since the wood the builder chose would be kinda wasted under paint, IMO. How do the Ritters play and sound?
RE: Sounds like you have some choices to make....more than just pickups and Surround yourself with people who support you! Haha! Actually, she does support me but rather than spending what little money I have right now on hobbies I should be putting it to more responsible things. That's all.
0-0 small world.... saw that one on the 'bay a couple weeks ago and woulda bought it but my PUS (parental units ) wouldnt allow for it. looking good, and with some proper finishing, ought to sell for decent. amek sure to post any progress pics!
i think that i would go with bartolini actvie pickups. my freind/fellow bassist has a cort b4 with those in it, and it rings like a bell, considering he has flatwound black nylons... black nylon g string.. fingers like a dream, and got some good heady thump
