Just for fun - what would be your pedal lineup, say maybe 3 to 5 pedals, if you'd want to cover the whole range from mild overdrive to higher gain distortion and fuzz?

As a starting example I could go with

    - Bearfoot Blueberry Bass Overdrive
    - smallsound/bigsound Mini
    - Wren and Cuff Tall Font Russian
    - VFE Woodchipper
wncBass, omie, Rabidrasbora and 2 others like this.

Since I settled on this setup, i have very low GAS for dirt pedals:

Clean boost & mild drive - RC booster
Mild to medium - Darkglass Vintage
    High gain - Darkglass B3k
medium to High gain soloing (no low end) + oscillations - Catalinbread Teaser Stallion
    fuzz - TAFM
    Gated fuzz - Mastotron

  3. i've got such a line up on my board:

    Fairfield Barbershop
    DG VMT deluxe
    W&C TFR
    VFE Woodchiper

If I wanted to do this all in one pedal... I'd go with a Dr Sci the Elements.

Mine starts out closer to medium gain and goes to full on onslaught pretty quickly. :)

    Rat Tail
    Baby Thundaa

Tough question if I have to limit myself to just 4-5 :)

Let's say I had to, interesting question...

Blueberry (or JohnK Gamma Bass OD or Pork Loin or Micro Red Dragon)
SFX Micro Fuzz (or SGFX Imperial)
    WoodChipper (or Oxide)
JohnK Animato (but would have to be blended)

Then, the Pre after that would depend on what is being used (Johnk orange, JohnK F2B, Rusty Box, or Meatsmoke)

This exercise is actually kind of opening my eyes to which Fuzzes I should take off my board :)

    - Xotic BB Bass Preamp
    - (probably something OCD-based)
    - COG Effects TK421x
    - Tall Font Russian

I still need to find something to fit the gap between the low gain tubescreamer and the rat... probably going to try a COG Knightfall variant.

I'd keep it simple. 5 Idiotbox Static Fuzz's set to different settings. Yes, this pedal is that good.

My mini board currently has my JohnK custom
"Foundry" (which is a Submarine and BJFE Blueberry with extra gain in the same box) and a Tall Font Russian. If I wanted even more range I'd get another Barbershop at the beginning and then a B:Assmaster or Oxide at the end.

    JohnK Barbershop clone
    Darkglass B3K
    VFE D3
    Dr. Scientist Frazz Dazzler
    Black Arts Pharaoh Supreme
    EQD The Terminal

This set up goes from mild to wild pretty quick.

I'll stack these for various levels of gain:

TC BH500 head with Tubetone at 11 o'clock for warmth
Way Huge Pork Loin for dirty breakup when digging in
Way Huge Green Rhino for straight up distortion (finger or with pick)

Haven't gotten into any fuzz pedals yet as I just haven't heard one that I like at a price point I'm willing to pay. (I'm cheap, er, thrifty!)

    Right now on my board
    fulltone bassdrive
B7K(with just slightest amount of pushed amp sound, or blend at 3:00)

I stack the 2 fulltones for 3 levels right now, I do have a all in one Rat tail(2 gain)/greystache and a BDPG, neither on my board at the moment this can get me 4 levels....

but if I had tons of money id get the barbershop, a blueberry and a VMT, all out of curiosity though my money is going towards a rig at the moment...
    I really dig light overdrive:)

    "Clean" - Rusty Box
    Mild - Darkglass VMT
High - Joyo American in clean blend loop
Crush - Way Huge Swollen Pickle

    For now at least.

  17. I'd say:
    Fairfield Accountant
    Pedal Projects Growly
    EQD Monarch
    Skreddy Supa Tone
    VFE Woodchipper
blindrabbit, nshuman and SunnBass like this.
  18. In order from least to most dirt:
    1. JohnK Gamma Bass OD (currently off my main board, but DANG it sounds good! Worth keeping, I WILL use it in the future!)
    2. B3K (I set it somewhat "tame" for its capabilities)
    3. GK 800RB Pedal Sim (also "tame", but wilder than B3K)

That's all I'd ever realistically NEED, but we know how that goes. If I needed two more OD/Distortions, here's what they are.
    4. Blower Box
    5. BAT Pharaoh

Couldn't see any dirt need uncovered by this. Mod/chorus, etc., obviously yes.

EBS Valvedrive DI: always on in my current setup for soft tube drive. It's at the end of my chain, just before the amp.

RC booster: adds some dirt & boosts the input of Valvedrive & amp.

    Aguilar Agro: distortion.

Fuzz: just ordered a Duality. :)

    for low gain I use:

Ezekiel 25:17 set darker and barely breaking up, so beefy!
Volt Thrower brighter and more break up, so grindy!

For fuzz I guess I love too many of them, I have 5 at the moment that I swap in and out based on what I'm doing.

As an end of chain texture adder:

Mountainking Behemoth II love it for this application, it's like the pepper mill in my fuzz kitchen. Just don't use it on everything.
