This has probably been done before, but I’m in the mood to see what y'all got... So please, post one picture of your favourite bass, or one family photo if you can’t narrow it down. Feel free to write a description as well. At the moment, this is mine: I kept the Chromes on it for the Hip-Hop and straight-forward Jazz I was playing on it, but was kinda lukewarm about the bass. It was great, but the flats really limited its potential (lesson learned, I’ll never put flats on a fretless again). I recently strung it up with Elixirs, and it absolutely sings now. So what’s yours?
my newest pride and joy: also, my pride and joys --- my "mains" as i gig them: i play rounds on all of them.
well, yes: modded and with upgraded parts/electronics. i bought them new for the general neck feel, and then changed out parts to improve playability and of course, the looks. i've always considered PJs the best, but lately i've been thinking about different pickups (such as yours) just to play a new experience. your ax is beautiful! i gotta believe it sounds like a monster!
My Fender family (all lefty and proud) - 2012 MIJ Jazz Bass '62 Reissue "Anastasia" (my "old-school" bass) - 2004 CIJ Jazz Bass V "Astrid" (my "all-rounder", also my No. 1 at the moment) - 2008 MIM Telecaster "Isabela" (bonus lol) - 2008 CIJ Jazz Bass '62 Reissue "Rosamund" (my "rocker" bass - awaiting new pickguard)
That would be my first bass, my Hamer Cruise. I don't play it much nowadays, but it's still my pride and joy. Took me a year to save for it, I played it so much. I even kept it on the bed while sleeping, sometimes. All the basses that came after it, Fenders, Warwick, Maruszczyk, Sei, Serek, Ibanez, some I kept, some I sold. The ones I kept are really good basses. But the Hamer is irreplaceable. If I could only have one, I would keep this one. I don't care if the others are better. This one is special.
My bass of doom, one that took me some time to put together but it is my ideal bass. I went hunting for the parts that I liked one by one. It is a Precision Bass (alder body) + Jazz Neck (from a 60's roadworn MIM) 7.25 radius + Schaller Original F-Series BMF tuners, DiMarzio DP122 pickups, DiMarzio pots, in Vintage White cos I'm partial to white basses. It is sporting flatwounds now, and it sounds as awesome as it looks.
My favorite and main squeeze- Fender Jazz neck on a Squier P body. I love everything about this bass; the sound, the feel, the look. What’s more, I put it together myself- giving me satisfaction, intimate knowledge of how it works, and a “custom” build on a tight budget.
Maybe in someone else’s hands But yours are great too! I love fretless maple P’s and I agree that PJs are the best configuration, especially for fretless. If I ever get another fretless 4 string, it will be a PJ.
Love my American Standard. Swapped the Tort out for black not long ago. Played soooo many gigs with this bass. It’s like home to me.
My EA Crafter is my baby. My first bass, bought at a very happy time in my life. It always has that 'hey, let's go to the park! Let's take the bass!" feeling to it. So wherever I play it feels like a park to me.
Was just gonna post the 'birds, which are clearly my faves, but the shot got photo-bombed by the Ibanez...
EDIT: Didn't know it but while I was posting this, Kevin Mahogony's "Pride and Joy" was playing in the background. (Source: WDCB Chicago)
... I have, since this pic, sold the Sonic Blue FrankenP & ‘rebadged’ the Oly White & Black necks with P waterslides! The Oly White P is wearing Chromes & the Black P GHS Pressurewounds. (They are #1 & #1a)
My jazzmaster P/J in Sonic Blue. Roasted swamp ash body with roasted maple neck. EMG GZR pickups with a four band Noll preamp. Warmoth build. Assembled by me. I looove this bass! Versatile, fun to play and I love the look.
