  1. Hey TB,

I've always wondered what brands of amp everyone here uses (I'm personally an Ampeg guy). So yeah, time for another poll! :hyper: List what brand of head you use, and if you want, explain why.

Thank you for posting! :bassist: If you think I need to change anything, please tell me. If you selected the "other" or "Boutique" Option, please specify, we want to know what you use!

*edit: I apologize in advance if a brand isn't listed, talkbass only allows 20 options on polls, so I wasn't able to include Carvin and a few others. Also, If you use a preamp-power amp setup, post in "other"
  2. Peavey Classic 400 - 400 watts all tube, dual mixable channels. Bad a$$ amp.

Carvin B1500 - Huge clean SS power.

Ampeg PF-500 - Cheap, sounds good, easy to carry.

Aguilar TH + Crest ProLite 3.0 - Huge power, sounds great.
  3. How do you like your PF-500? Does it cop an original portaflex tone well?
  4. Carvin BX1500 here...

    Mesa Walkabout - into either a Walkabout 12 or a Berg CN212
Fender Studio Bass - into an LDS 2x15

I also have an Ampeg PF500/115HE rig, but it only gets used in rehearsal.
  6. I dont know. I have never sat down with it and a B15 with the same cab.

I really dig the sounds I get out of it with my cabs though.
  7. Wow, a lot of Genz-Benz love here!
  8. I've been loving the Mesa gear ever since I picked up my rig so I voted Mesa.

You left out DIY/homemade as a poll selection, but I guess "other" is close enough. So yeah, I roll my own preamps and soon will finish up a complete DIY integrated bass head. I do own a "boutique" commercial cab though...Thunderchild 112AF.

I have a few, I marked "Peavey" because it almost always goes along for the ride even if it I don't power it up. It's like the spare that will always work if whatever else I happen to be using doesn't cut it.
    I also have;
    Fender Studio bass "head",
    Ampeg B-15T.

I have a Hartke 3500, GK MB200, Ashdown LB-30, Peavey VB-2, Tech 21 RBI pre with several different power amp options - but most of my gigs are with a cover band and I use my TC Electronics BG250 combo - so I put "other".
  14. Ampeg SVT... Because I like how it sounds.

Ampeg SVT4 PRO because I got it for a steal. It wasn't my first choice though, since its heavy as f*ck and has notorious ground loop issues with the DI which ampeg refuses to address.

    Another vote for DIY.

I also have Ampeg, Ibanez and Fender amps.

First off, I'd like to thank you for including Sunn. Though these types of thread seem to come up on a weekly basis, it's rare for Sunn not to get lumped in the "other" category.

    Second, my amps:

    Sunn 2000s
    Sunn 1200s
    Sunn 200s

As to why I use Sunns? They're simply the best amps for my personal tonal goals. Big, clean, warm, and brilliant break up when pushed hard. And since I like the sound of the power section breaking up, 120w isn't too unreasonable (I don't think I could really get away with pushing a 300w amp over the edge).
