You're limited to 2 basses, what are they?

You can also go with one bass if that's your thing. These two cover all the sonic territory that I need. Both strung with Dunlop flats and both sound really good in the mix. I have the mid boost on the Will Lee set to emphasize what, to my ears, helps the neck pickup soloed sound like a really good P bass. Yes, the 5 string is a 30" scale, which I would have previously laughed at, but it really sounds good. (Kudos to @JimmyM for the inspiration for this thread.)

    MIJ MetroLine RV4 and G&L USA LB-100.
RV4 w/ DR Sunbeams, LB-100 w/ Sadowsky Blue Label flats.
Love the Geddy and Cutlass, but if I had to pick two, it’d be the Sadowsky and the G&L.

  3. I'd stay with my Musicmasters. Prove they're all I need is the 6 or 7 other basses I've had that came and went while they remained.

Still looking after over 15 years for a good set of split Jazz.
Open to suggestions, but I always come back to singles. About to give up all together.
I’ve tried Fralins, SD, Fender, Aguilar, Bart, Dimarz......The ones I kept the longest where the Fralins.
I play 100% passive, but often need the neck only position. I can deal with the hum about 90% of the time.
Other 10% is either the crap electricity wiring of the building or too many RF in the city.
Maybe Nordies?? But I really didn’t like the P pickup I tried from them.
They all sound like they’re choked or have some sort of muffled tone to them. They don’t « breath » as well.
(Sorry for all the words that mean nothing to describe a sound.)

If I was a working pro in the hired gun mode, it would be a P with lively flats (Sadowsky/TI/DR), and an active dual-pickup 5-string with passive capability and tone control, strung with rounds. Hard to imagine what that combination couldn't cover, unless you're talking fretless or specialist needs. Taking it down to one? That active 5. In my case, it's a Sadowsky Metro Will Lee, strung with DR Pure Blues...and I have not played a 4-string in years. Of course, as a GASaholic, I have too many basses...

Of the three I have it would be the Roscoe and the Jaco. Although I'd really want to try an unlined neck on the P, before I made any rash decisions.

It's gotta be some kind of fretted BG and some kind of upright. That's pretty much all I've ever had on hand at one time, even now.
