So I'm not a effects guy at all, I have ignored pedals for years and have always gone straight into my amp. So please excuse the ignorance.

The new Zac Brown Band single has a gritty and mean bass overdrive or whatever it is. I know it's a PBass but what pedal will give you that grit, or does it sound like an over drive tube amp?

  2. Link to the specific grit you refer to?

Might be a bit of both: a booster/OD pedal that pushes a tube amp into airing its dirty laundry. No idea as I'm unfamiliar with Zac Brown Band.

Sounds like a Blower Box or Rat Tail in Heavy Is the Head.

I do not use effects either but lately have been
digging my TC RH450 head with TubeTone effect.
    Fuzz tone bass !

  6. Is Oteil Burbridge still playing with him these days?

I think he only played with Zac on that Dave Grohl project thing he did.

  8. Ah, ok, that makes sense. Can't imagine Oteil using that sort of tone.

Zac Brown's website shows Matt Mangano currently in the bass chair.

  9. WoWa, not sure how these guys slipped under my radar. Not entirely my scene, but I should've had a blip at the very least.

Bass sounded bombastically good on that track.

    Pent up anger -> 63 PBass -> Rat Tail -> Avalon U5 -> Portaflex (loud) miked with a Fet47.

  11. Getting the feeling you know this first hand? If so nice work!

  12. The pent up anger definitely makes it. ;)

    Nice work!

That new Zac Brown is interesting. If you want an album full of songs like Heavy is the Head, avoid the album and just buy that track. Nothing else anywhere in Zac's catalog sounds like that. In fact, the first song on the new album sounds EXACTLY like a Katy Perry song, autotuned and everything. Seriously. Very confusing.

But then who really wants an album full of songs that sound the same?

I agree with the variety thing. As long as there is a vein that is recognizable as the same artist. Most people don't want an album of the same songs nor do they want an album that is a collection of songs that sound like different artists. But that song ROCKS

Hmm, the vid says "feat. Chris Cornell". I beg to differ, that IS classic Chris Cornell with a little vocals from Zac Brown. I can understand why nothing else on the album sounds like it.

Yeah, that's not typical Zac Brown sound, but this guy is someone who has some really good musicianship in his songs IMO. I really like this track :)

Great song, and totally sounds like a Soundgarden song. But Chris had nothing to do with the writing, according to the list of 7 people listed as writers on Wikipedia. Definitely sounds Ratty and Ampeggy, though.
