Get a 5. No really, Zon's really shine in the 5 format, due to the composite neck and such. If you drop D-tune, the extra string is helpful as well.. I love my zon, they're great basses. -neal
It has 4 strings, a wood body, a composite neck, a phenolic or phenowood fingerboard, gotoh mini tuners, and an ABM looking bridge that is stamped ZON. The pickups and electronics vary depending on model. And they are very nicely crafted.
And to add to embellisher's comments about the body..its usually ash and the preamp is usually 2 band. They're great basses. Editted to say that they sound like a modern J-bass. Really growly, clear and well defined. Notes explode off the fingerboard and everything is VERY clear.
I had a Sonus 4 for a while. I sold it to get a 5, which I haven't bought yet. I like my Henderson 5 so much I might hold out for a 6. It sounds like a *really* great Jazz bass, it's super lightweight and a joy to play. The slap sound is also terrific. I know my Zon's out there somewhere. We just need to find each other.
Great sound. I agree that I prefer the 5'er. Also, I have difficulty slapping in my style. The body is very close to the strings.
Hey, it can happen. I only have about $700 cash in my Zon Sonus Special 5 Fretless, which lists at $3375. Ska Freak, get it if it's selling for that price!
You don't want to buy it. A Zon's only worth a couple hundred bucks. Two of three at the most. They're made in Korea. Of plastic. And the plastic isn't even through-body. Why don't you tell me the phone number of the seller and I'll go "check it out" for you? Seriously, if it's in good shape it's a great deal.
