I'm considering parting with my Zon TJ Fretless. Certainly the best fretless bass I've ever played. Sounds just as good as it looks! This bass has a beautiful Bubinga top. Great opportunity to own an amazing instrument. A Zon TJ model but really mirrors Damien Erskine’s pickup placement which is a tone I have always admired. B String sounds perfect; the tone is really impressive. Action is very low and play-ability is outstanding. Condition is outstanding. You will not find a dent, scratch, or any mark on this instrument. Only wear is light surface marks on the fretless neck from the strings. This happen the first week you own the instrument and is completely unavoidable. Beside that, it’s absolutely mint. Good luck!
Not much activity here. I am wondering if this post just got buried....? Any questions or comments on the bass /price? Beautiful instrument in need of a home.
First and final price drop. Keeping this bass for myself if it doesn't go soon Asking price was $4,200.00. I'll leave the thread open for another week or two at the current price of $3900.00.
Yep, this model does have a trust rod. It was built 06.2011; I am the only owner. Thanks for looking!
Neck Type: Composite, bolt-on design Scale length: 34" Finish: Flat satin Truss rod: Dual action Fingerboard: Extended phenowood w/MOP face dot markers Radius: 12" Nut: Graphite Width at nut: 2.125" Width at 24th fret: 3.250" Also more info here... http://www.zonguitars.com/zonguitars/sonustj5.html
Sorry! Just realized I did not answer your question in that last post Here you go... String spacing: 17mm (string-to-string) This string spacing is actually really comfortable. If you're into Mat Garrison type techniques this spacing is very helpful. I struggle to perform that technique on my other instruments which are all 19mm. The pickup placement and neck also help as they act as a ramp. Neck is very fast. If you've ever played a Zon then you're likely familiar with the low action of these instruments.
I believe the neck widths above are for a TJ6....for the TJ5 they are 1.875" at the nut and 74mm at the 24th fret.....at least this is what the dimensions of my TJ5 are!
These are phenomenal basses, and this model is arguably the finest fretless on the planet. Someone is going to be VERY happy with this bass!! Wish it could be me
