FS only: 1996 Status Limited edition 5-string. #36/100. Neck thru, cherry sunburst over flame maple top, red tinted graphite neck, all chrome hardware. Status pick ups (chrome), 2 band EQ with mid select switch, volume and blend control. 34" scale and 18mm string spacing. Weighs in at a 8.5 lbs on the bathroom scale.

Although this is #36 out of 100 I've been told there are actually less than 60 of these. I just set it up with a set of D'addario 45-130 flex-steels and it plays effortlessly and sounds great. This has one of the lowest actions I've ever been able to achieve on a bass. the EQ allows for plenty of adjustment and overall the thing sounds great. Simply put: this is one of the easiest playing best sounding basses I've ever had. That's the good.

The Bad: this thing has been played. The finish has several bumps and cracks in it, though none of it is missing. I've tried to show the cracks as best I can in the pictures. The plating on the neck pick up has one tiny spot where it's missing (DOES NOT appear to be worsening) and the pick ups show signs of string wear on them. Surprisingly, the frets show only minimal wear if any at all. It should be noted that the neck and playing surfaces have ZERO finish or other issues.

Since taking possession of this bass I buffed out almost all the tiny surface scratches and the finish really does shine. Same with the fretboard. I also slotted the saddles to accept regular gauge strings (originally they were cut for taperwounds only). I also replaced the battery compartment, cleaned out all the electronics, and gave it a thorough going over.

This one is really fun to play, I'll be sad to see it go.

As a 5 string it's actually rarer than described as quite a few of the 60 or so made were 4 strings. I owned #41/100 (a 4) and it was an incredible bass. KWS
