Notice anything different about this bass? Yep...count 'em. SIX STRINGS! Due to the wide nut (2.008"), I bought the Squier Deluxe Jazz Active V to modify into a narrow-spaced 6-string. All it took was a new bridge (3 1/8"), a new bone nut & some new Gotoh tuning keys. The neck is beyond comfy & I didn't have to spend $2K+ for a custom 6-string jazz. I'm also doing this mod to my white Squier DJAV. Here are the results. Should I call it the DJAVI now???
I may have to consider doing this myself. What about the pickups though? Aren't they both the same size, and for a five string?
It's the stock pickups. Remember, this was a wide-spaced 5 before. Now that it's a 6, the string spacing is along the lines of Warwick, Ibanez, Peavey & Carvin. Narrow. Both pups are 3 5/8" & they are more than wide enough for the 3 1/8" bridge.
How is the string to string response? I'd love a six string, and an excuse to get a low B. Mine is currently strung up with a high C.
Great job! Looks good... I wanted to do this to mine too. What brand of bridge did you use? cheers wemedge
Honestly, I don't know the brand name. It's the "economy 6-string bridge" at www.guitarpartsresource.com
Wow this looks really interesting and not too hard either. I might try to do this sometime if I get the balls to actually do this kind of modding.
wow i want one now...now all it needs is a graphite neck, new pickups and a nice 2 piece bridge and its set!
ok, im sold...as soon as i get back stateside im gonna have to find one of these... what tuners did you use, the sealed or the open back? i think im basically gonna do what you did but reverse the colors....olympic white and black hardware.
