It went down very well at a show I took it to. I am still forming an opinion regarding what I like in guitars. At the moment I prefer the sound of the TKO equipped with P90 and the active circuit. I need to try this type of guitar with the active circuit as well to make a more informed choice.

While my opinions are no more valid than any idiot's, I prefer the look of the P90s on the Reiver. The wider casing, compared to the humbuckers, looks a little more balanced to me.

Both guitars have humbucker sized pickups. The P90 are in a humbucker sized case. I am trying to stick to two pickup guitars using the one pickup cavity route so the P90 are not in the usual case.

Wow, that's deceptive - I could swear that the covers on the P90s look wider. It must be a weird effect of the cream covers.

Ah you were talking about the first Reiver in which case you are spot on it does have full sized P90. The TKO has P90s but it is in a humbucker casing. Sorry my misunderstanding.

Have you considered building a solid body guitar that is piezo-only?

I keep coming back to look at this bass, it looks absolutely amazing!

Those Wenge topped Finns aren't too shabby either!

    Fantastic work, as ever... :bassist:

So this showed up today. Uber Spec Finn 5 R-Type.

The cell phone pics don't do it justice. This is a gorgeous bass. My wife wants it hanging on the wall in the entry room of our house.

More importantly it sounds as good or better than not just any bass I've ever owned, but any I've ever laid hands on.

So clean, powerful and versatile. In my opinion this new line of basses from Alan are right up there with Foderas, Dingwall, Ritters and MTDs.

    Amazing.

Thanks. Alan really does fantastic work, doesn't he?

Thanks Tom. I still love your Recurve S-type. Such a great looking bass. These new ACG multicoil pickups are really something else and definitely worth checking out.

So I spent the last hour or so tweaking the setup and preamp. Now the relief & intonation are spot on (and they were really close already even after the bass' trip from Scotland to California) and the action is just where I like it. I adjusted the internal trimmers to boost the treble gain and lower the gain of both mid boosts. I also flipped the DIP switches so the mid boosts are now at 250 Hz and 800 Hz.

I may slightly tweak the trimmers a bit again tomorrow but for the most part I'm incredibly happy with every aspect of this bass.
