Visually it looks cool to me, however It's also about the sound. It has me interested enough to at least check it out when available.
I don't mind this EB-F, although I can't say it comes on out and grabs me. I'm guessing it'll sound alright, but the price just isn't competitive enough. As for the G-3, that looks really cool! Good thing I don't have money to blow on basses right now, or else it just might happen...
You mean the same Mr. Hendrix who sometimes played a V? And the same Mr. Clapton who now has his own LP sig?
Just my 2 cents worth. Saw John Wetton with a Gibson & sounded fantastic, saw Chris Squire with a Rick & sounded fantastic, saw Geddy with a Fender & sounded fantastic...... Just saying
Grabbers and G3s are the only gibson basses worth anything in my book. But only the Bill Lawrence ones not the reissues they have now.
It's on the Gibson website now. http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Bass/Gibson-USA/EB-Bass.aspx
The reissue G3 is actually pretty awesome. I spent some time with one in a store a few weeks back and came away impressed. I'd love to get one, but that means something has to go first.
I don't get this bass... To me there's nothing "Gibson" about it. I don't now if it's the MM/G&L type pickups, the body shape, the XBOX huge pickguard, the knobs it has or what, but it seems so off. I've been saying for years that Gibson should introduce a double-cutaway bass with modern electronics, and while this is close to that, it just looks like a mishmash of other instruments. They got it right with the Victory and the Bass IV, but why not here? And this isn't to say Gibson can't make good basses. Look at the Thunderbird, EB series (barring this thing), RD series, G3/Grabber/Ripper, and Les Paul basses. Each one of them is highly respected, and Gibson CAN get it right (TBird, RD Artist, LP Triumph and Money)...but here they missed the mark.
As with all other Gibson basses. Do Not Like. Scale's too short. Pickup options are bland. No 5 string, and it's trying to be retro.
I agree but that (IMO) is an ugly bass! Nothing against Gibson (I currently am waiting for my new Gibson Midtown hollow body) but this bass is too much like a Eastwood/Burns to be original. Not impressed at all.
Do some of you guys really think that Gibson is going to come out with a 35" scale 6 string single cut fretless? They dont make 7 string guitars with handles cut in them either...
I'd be happy if they produced a bass that was designed to be played as a bass in the correct ergonomic position and balance of a bass. They seem to think they can just slap a longer neck on any old guitar body shape and put 4 big strings on it and that's what makes a bass.
