how close is too close for the same name?

  1. I would check into how much, and where, the other band plays out. You say they're four hours away...if they're just a typical garage rock cover band playing the same local circuit every month, you probably won't have a problem. If you notice they play out quite a bit more, and do some out of state gigs, you may have some issues.

To be honest, though, I agree with some of the others that "Off the Record" isn't that original. I'm sure I've seen it used before.

    I always liked

    Ornery People

    and
    Hoots Pa.

    But yea, I'm weird.
I did a whole list on the Bassment once, have to dig that one up.

  4. I wouldn't..

Your new audience will question your intelligence level.. your fan base will then be searching out the easiest to spell version.

Dig harder for a better name.

  5. Personally, I'd say that there is no minimum distance for copying another band's name - no name is so great that I'd knowingly promote myself using someone else's name, but that's just me.

    HA HA HA. I lold

So is this open for suggestions? Are you getting anywhere with the band on a new idea?

    I agree with ditching OTR

Just pulling stuff out of the air, what about:

    Few Man Chew
    Smurftop
    Rolled Gold
    Slip Side Charlie
    Whooz to Lose
    Ripless
    Johnny Fireball and the Flickers
    Grindchute
    DeLa Vanche Brigade
    Relit Stone
    Rootvolver

IMO, making up original stuff is easy and more fun than using a name that others WILL think of too. Of course, I do not apply this attitude toward writing music, I prefer to play covers

    Good luck! :D
