Hi, I have been spending a lot of my practise time of late working on walking over Rhythm Changes. I am now starting to look at strategies for soloing over this progression and as a starting point transcribed Paul Chambers solo from The Theme taken from the 'Miles' album - the A section of which I have attached to this post. I am still relatively new to jazz soloing and would really appreciate it if more experienced players could take a look at the transcription and offer some insights into how Paul Chambers is approaching soloing over this progression - specifically what scales/devices(bebop licks, enclosures, 7-3 resolutions etc ) he is using as well as thoughts on when he is playing the changes as opposed to using one scale over a number of measures stuff like that. Thanks
Well, I looked at it for one minute, and the first thing I noticed is that he's using primarily chord tones, with a few chordal-scalar tones and the occasional passing tone. Nothing too out there.
