Ripper GAS

  1. I just had to tell somebody.

Just went to local shop and they had a used Gibson Ripper, Tobaco burst Frettless with a Ebony frettboard. Nickel flatwounds, even unplugged I could feel it resonate in my sternum.

I was strong though kept my wallet in my pocket and managed to even put it back on the hook before I ran out.

Had the money too as I am heading on Vacation to Atlantic City today. Close call though. Maybe i'll win at the blackjack table and buy it when I come back, yeah right.

  2. so lemme get this straight - you'd rather throw your money down a casino toilet than buy another bass?

  3. No I'm going to help a friend Move back down to Miami. If I'm lucky I may even make some money helping him sell His antiques before he comes down.

They are asking too much for it anyhow, but if i'm lucky it will be sold before I return. At least I think 900$ is too much, maybe i'm wrong.

They are pretty sweet. If the one you saw hasn't
been hacked-up with new pups, etc. like so many,
I'd say 'get it' :). Ya' can't beat those ebony boards
made of 'old-growth' timber...tighter grain, etc. Very,
    very hard and smooth.

  5. Yeah the board was yummy
You can't even see a grain without getting like 2" away.
Not hacked up at all, aside from the bridge cover missing, doesn't even have buckel marks on it.

And the Burst on the neck fades right off the edge Of the board so you can't even tell the neck is seperate.

OK I have to stop talking about this or I'll run back and get it.
Good thing I leave in a few hours.:D

Wow. $900 for a ripper. I paid $175 for one about 12 years ago. Ended up trading it. I didn't think nearly as much of it at the time as I did Fenders. They are a unique animal though. I don't think I have seen one in a few years.

    Wow!

I had a chance today to spend about ten minutes with a Ripper today (unplugged - they didn't have a bass amp). Natural finish with a maple board.

    Again, wow!

That thing really resonates! I was way impressed. They're asking $400 OBO in average condition.

Anybody in Chicago looking for a Ripper? Drop me a line, and I'll send you directions to this tiny little store.
