I've done my research, listened to reviews and music videos of their 4 and 5 strings, and I think I want one more than ever.

I have an Ibanez GSR200, slightly modded, and Im thinking of selling it for an SX P/J Bass. Watched a video and I love the tone of it.

    I'm liking this one a lot: http://www.rondomusic.com/spj62vwh.html

I've posted a thread about their 5 strings, so I have an idea about SX, open to more though. Any opinions or past experiences? Maybe regrets getting rid of your bass for another?

i have the same bass with the maple board, all stock except for a pro setup and a new set of strings. Plays and sounds great. I already decided that if I change the pickups in this one, it's getting active EMG's. But I have no need to change anything on it at the moment.

Pic from the last show...my T-Bird was the backup bass on this gig.

I have been moving a lot of less expensive 4 string basses through my set up lately. I have the Red version of that SX bass and just can't find a reason to get rid of it. I've got an upgraded Hipshot B Bridge on it and it's strung with Chromes right now, although it sometimes gets Marcus Millers on it. The rest is stock.

I have had a MIM Jazz, a Hoppus, Squier VM and a Squier P-Bass Special and I sold or traded all those away. There was clearly a difference in manufacturing between those 4 and the SX with the Squiers leading the way. But the SX held it's own in that company enough that I felt I could take the higher resale value of the Fenders without feeling that I had a huge hole in the lineup.

The only SX I have sold was a 5 string fretless. I loved the feel and all, but I prefer a wider string spacing. I own all 5's with the exception of the 1 SX and it's just doesn't seem headed anywhere anytime soon.

You'll dig that bass, OP - my friend just got that exact one a couple weeks ago.

I played the **** out of it on Friday night messing around at my buddy's place/recording studio. U know the type of night - sitting around, drinkin booze, just jamming out for hours on end, just getting totally lost in the music...

...by then end of the night I thought the damn thing was mine to take home with me...:bassist:

BTW, the neck will be a bit of a jump from your Ibanez though - I used to have a GSR 200 - skinny little necks on those things. The SX neck is like a baseball bat compared to it - but dont let that deter you, you'll get used to it

I occasionally regret getting rid of my SX fretless 4+1 jazz. I didn't use it much in the band I used to be in. Now I'm no longer with that band and I'm playing with more people in various settings. There are times the fretless would come in handy. But, I suppose, considering that the SX line is so inexpensive, I could always pick up another.

I would keep the ibanez for a little while, esp. while your getting used to the difference in the neck, and just to have a different flavor when you want. I have the PJ in a red color and i love it. it's the tone i've been trying to get for a couple of years now. I threw a set of flats from webstrings on there and it was glorious tone heaven! she'll be getting some cosmetic mods, but no new hardware at all for quite some time!

    Gordo oh,

Congrats on pulling the trigger on the SX...and welcome to the club! I joined the SX family in early December and am happy that I did.

I feel the need to reply because I also own a GSR200. My Ibanez has always been easy to play and I dug the light weight and thin neck. So, when I initially got my 5 string SX, it took some getting used to how the SX is heavier and the neck thickness. But as the months move on, I find myself basically forcing myself to play the Ibanez once in awhile, almost out of guilt. Honestly, if I knew I could get some money out of it, I would sell it and buy a 4 string SX. That should tell you how much I like SX...

    :)

Gord_oh, why not wait a week or 3, take in some pop cans for refund (if you live in such a state) or skip lunches out and pack a P,BnJ sammich everyday and drink tap water.

(BTW, I am ordering a bass case today from Buzzards Bass and that was paid for, entirely by trading in pop cans for the deposit!)

Then buy the SX get it setup/set it up right and then you decide.

Getting a new bass = good
selling an old bass = bad
more than one bass = good

Really man, how bad do you want it? It is a 100 dollar bass...surely you can dig up 100 bucks an a week or 3? I'm here to tell you, I regret selling 3 of the 4 basses I have sold in my life! (One I sold to a friend to get his son started on the bass, so that was a good thing)

EDIT: I see you ordered the SX Gord_oh! Congrats! Now you get to wait till next Tuesday...that is the tough part!

Have any SX owners here removed the labeling on the headstock and put on their own fender ones?

Why? I can't think of a more cheezy thing to do to your bass.

You really have to ask why? Because a lot of people like the image of "FENDER" and i guarantee someone, somewhere...possibly on TB, has done this.

I wish SX had some interesting P-basses. The J's are to drool for, but the P's are limited.
