I play a 32" and for me there is no going back to 34. I am 5'2" so I am not the biggest person. There aren't many 32" basses out there so I was wondering if anyone else is a fan? If so do you have one? Thoughts anyone? This Jazz is a Warmoth I got on Ebay for a great price.
Great looking Warmoth !! I play mostly long scale basses, but I do occasionally get a chance to gig the shorties! My shorties are 30 scale though. There are short scale and medium scale clubs here on talkbass...You might look for those! Oh, and it just in case you're new here, welcome!
Thank you for the welcome, and the compliment on my bass. I will check out the club you mentioned. What shorties do you have? I think the new Fender Mustang looks cool.
I currently have a couple of old Danelectro Longhorns, and a Epiphone Allen Woody signature model. Yeah, the new Mustang should be a pretty cool bass !
Hey Lisa (LOL at WV!) Your bass is beautiful, love that ceruse finish! Yeah, I am pretty much dedicated to medium scalers, to say the least. I think a good place to start is this thread, which is a Master List of 32" mediums and has a good amount of pretty nice photos. There are quite a few but you have to go out of your way to find them. Hard to walk into your local Guitar Center or mom and pop shop and expect to see lots of mediums hanging on the wall. Although they are growing in popularity as days go by: Master List Of Medium 32" Scale Basses Only - Not For Short Scale 30" I also have a dissertation on shorter scale basses on my website here: Why Not Play the Bass That Fits You Perfectly? And there is a great medium scale bass club here: The Official Medium Scale Bass Club Not sure where in Virginia you are - but my band "Happy the Man" lived in Harrisonburg, and then Northern Virginia for a number of years. Welcome to the forum!
I play them the majority of the time. Primarily ExFactors. I also love my Yamaha Motion B. Extremely small, light and easy to play.
Thanks so much for the welcome and all the great links. I will certainly check them out. I am near Fredericksburg. Thanks again!
My ~1972 Epiphone Rivoli (EA 260 really) has a 32" scale. Now has La Bella tapewounds, this was when I was still rocking DR Lo Beams.
32's are not exactly thick on the streets so I don't think I've ever played one. It does seem like a sensible compromise between the two major scale lengths though. I'm average size and find myself more sensitive to the neck width, with anything wider than 1 5/8" harder to get around on.
Are you certain? Every one that I've ever seen has been 30"... In fact, your bass is identical to my Univox "Coily". Takes medium scale strings to be sure, due to the distance between the tailpiece and bridge... -robert
I've got an Aria Pro II TSB-350 (Thor) fretless I recently picked up. Has a 32.5" scale. Lovely bass and easily my all time favorite fretless.
