did a little trading today and came home with this beauty ! Classic p bass tone ... plays and sounds great !
Damn last day for the sale at GC these are on sale for $499. If I wasnt in the process of a Pino look alike bass I'd be all over it.
Luckily I picked up mine when they had them at $475, plus I used $40 more in discounts on it. Not too bad.
I just picked one up this past Friday! I wish there was a little more info about them. This post is the first where somebody mentioned how many were made. It’s actually my first P bass ever in over 20 years of playing. Everyone keeps saying I should swap out the pickup for (insert brand here), but so far I think it sounds great as is. I’m going to play a few gigs with it before I decide to change anything.
I had band rehearsal last night with this for the first time and absolutely loved how it sat in the mix. Looks great doing it as well!
Did you find a new one? GC seemend low on inventory back in November. I think the pup is a little low mid heavy and a bit murky. OTOH, one of my projects like this bass better! The tuners are not great.
Yes, this was brand new out of the box and I just happened to be the first person to even play it. The GC in Rockford, IL. doesn’t get a lot of traffic, so I got lucky. The tuners aren’t perfect for sure. I like more low mids personally, and it hasn’t been murky with a new set of D’Addario XL Chrome flats so far. I’ll have to see how it fares as they break in though.
I'm not fond of the pickup, it's rather bleh sounding. But the tuners seem fine to me, it's always in tune when I dig it out of my 12 year olds' room.
Mine has not been the usual positive Fender tuning experience: i.e. Tune it twice a year if it needs it or not. I've got some early 70's Fenders that just don't go out of tune even with weather changes. The neck has been really stable too. It amazes me that since it probably costs pennies to make a great pickup instead of just an OK pup thatsome manufacturers really miss the boat. OTOH, Perhaps the thinking was let's put in a low mid bump so that it sounds better with small practice amps.
