Usage of a noise gate + eq pedal?

    I have seen a couple of bass players in the shows I've gone to, use a noise gate / noise supressor (the boss noise gate pedal in this case) and use a 7 band eq pedal ( talking about the boss model here aswell) even if they had a 7 or a 9 band eq on their amp head. So I was wondering if there really was a difference / advantage in using those.

    A pedal eq is like having another chanel, or sound, instantly available. Noise reduction is useful if you have noise.
