So, I traded an MTD for a Sadowsky bass (Classic J5 - Serial number 7006 - Flamed maple top, ash body, maple neck) and the initial post from this guy said, and this is a direct quote:
"I will trade you my new Sadowsky NYC 5". Notice, it says "new". As most would expect, I was interested, and very much so. The picture showed a teardrop hardshell case and the bass in great condition.
Upon arrival, the bass was in good shape, the neck was messed up however, and took a length set-up process to get it straight. That said, it's fine now. Anyway, I immediately noticed that it wasn't "new" as was described. Fret wear, and other obvious signs gave that away.
I reached out to the seller, and said, and I quote:
"Just got the bass....
Couple of things:
1. The bass pictures you sent, clearly show a teardrop hardshell case. This is NOT what you sent the bass in. If this wasn't included, it should have been noted otherwise. It wasn't.
2. You said the bass was "new", which I took you at your word. However, this bass is NOT new. You're about the 3rd or 4th owner, and if I'd known it was used and not new - as you stated it was - I would have asked for some cash in order to even the deal out. Because used, this is a $32-3400 bass. Mine was listed at $4000. And, since you said this was new, I had value at basically even. But again, it is NOT NEW.
This bass has been sold several times on talkbass.
So, I need to know what we're going to do to make this right? I don't want to reach out to the moderators yet. But, we need to make this deal right.
How do you propose to fix this, and make it right?"
At that point, the texts started and it was "I don't have no money". "I didn't have the hard case" and "Your bass was sold for $3700 on talkbass", and on and on... What my bass sold for previously, is irrelevant and didn't matter. I'd done research that justified the small uptick in price, based on myriad reasons.
I requested the bass be sent back, undamaged, and in short order. And, stated I would send the Sadowsky back, as well. No response.
At the end of the day, this guy is a liar. He told me one thing knowing it was untrue, and did so knowingly and intentionally to get a deal done. A deal that likely wouldn't have gotten done the other way. And, he knew this....
I don't know what recourse I have at this point, at least through talkbass. There are other legal avenues I will use in the event that he doesn't make this right. I would second guess anything you're doing with this individual.
