I have been contemplating how to post this feedback for a few days now (between Neutral and Negative), but in the end I believe a Negative review is warranted, and I write this to help other potential sellers if doing business with MinHa.

If you care for the story, read on; otherwise, skip to end recommendation.

MinHa first purchased my Carvin V59K, which was held up in Korean Customs for ~ 2 weeks. He requested my help in obtaining a Certificate of Origin, followed by a Korean Import form (which he could have done), after a couple of back and forth communications and me reading up on the requirements for the import to help him out, the bass was finally out of Customs and delivered (I've posted a positive review for MinHa for this transaction).

During the time the bass was held up in Customs, MinHa said one of his friends was interested in my other Carvin PB5 I also had for sale. MinHa sent payment (PayPal), but afterwards, not part of the original Sale agreement, asked me by PM to send directly to friend's address and also requested me to ship without insurance, and provide an invoice/customs value less than $200 (Bass was sold for $1150) to avoid Customs delays and import fees. I felt uneasy about this, and told him that having the right declaration value and insurance protected him for the risk of damage or loss. He said he was willing to take that risk, and asked to proceed in sending it to him at <$200 value and no insurance. Willing to oblige and also minimize my risk, I told him I would refund the money (PayPal) and he would have to fund in a way to mitigate my risk (PayPal personal, Bank Transfer, etc) he agreed on this and promised he would pay this way immediately upon refund. Not to delay the long story any further, MinHa cancelled the transaction after 2 weeks and sent me a PM stating,

"The vk bass has arrived and I finally got the refund, but I'm really afraid to say this, but I guess I have to cancel the transaction of pb bass because of the big delay...I had to tell you this earlier I guess.. I'm really sorry for the late respond and letting you know. Sorry for this.."

I was a bit confused since supposedly the bass was purchased by his friend, but he wasn't cited as a reason at all in the cancellation. During the 2 weeks that the bass was marked as SOLD, I let go of an amazing trade opportunity for a bass I really wanted, and 2 other cash offers, which all have now expired since the buyers have now traded/bought other basses. I am only ~$35 out of pocket for the shipping box and peanuts as I had the bass ready for shipment while waiting for the promised payment.

My recommendation if doing business with MinHa:
1) Sell and agree on true declared value and insurance, buyer to pay shipping and customs import fee. PayPal merchant funding ok
2) Sell and send per MinHa's request of No insurance and declared value less than $200, but request guaranteed payment (Bank transfer, Paypal personal, Cashier's cheque, etc)
3) Avoid the hassle and sell to domestic buyer

MinHa,

Thanks for flying all the way from South Korea to finalize your first transaction on TalkBass. For those who might be skeptical, don't be. This is a good guy who flew to San Diego, from South Korea, to purchase my Wyn bass in person. He is just getting started here on TalkBass and he realized that with no feedback and a freight address for a PayPal shipping address, he needed to take drastic action to get started here.

I'm so glad to have met MinHa and would like to recommend him to anyone who is buying or selling a bass to him.

Take care,

Greg
