To my ear, they're darker and more complex than Evahs. You can get a decent pizz sound out of them if you like old school thud, but they're nothing like, say, Spiros.
Would you consider the pizz more "jazz" than a bel canto? I am looking for a good hybrid jazz/classical string for my Shen willow 3/4. I like the bow sound of the bc on my bass, but the jazz pizz is labor intensive and lacks bwwwooowww.
Thoughts?
I have not used them with an amplifier yet.../QUOTE]
I have, on an old carved Juzek-ish bass with a Realist through a Fishman pre into the PA. It sounded good for pizz and slap, with the usual Realist caveats (crank the highs to the sky!). I was happy with the sound I got, and I hate amplifying.
