Anybody replace their Warwick preamp?

Just curious, looking for experienced opinions!

I have a Streamer Jazzman, everything is stock. Love the bass, I just feel something might be missing. I just think it could be better. I use the bass with the bridge pickup only 90% of the time, and just switch coils to achieve different sounds. I run the preamp engaged, but flat. With the preamp bypassed it's just a weeee bit thinner sounding...just engaging the preamp gives it a little boost that's just right.

But...the controls. They seem...useless? They just don't seem to be able to add anything useful. Especially compared to my Spector which has an Aguilar OBP-3. It's amazing what those controls can do.

So, what are your thoughts on the Warwick/MEC preamps?

Sub'd. Been thinking of an upgrade myself. I like the sounds I get in one of the corvette standards, but the other (even when I had the same strings on it) just lacked a little...something...Hmmmm.

I replaced the MEC preamp in an Infinity SN four-string with an Aguilar OBP-2. I also did not feel that the MEC tone controls provided enough control over the tone, especially the bass. Changing preamp fixed that problem.

Once the new strings on my Fortress P/J broke in, I came to appreciate the 2-band preamp on my Fortress P/J. I actually like it better for cut than boost, which is fine since I always have plenty of headroom.

Replaced my thumb 6 pre amp with a john east u retro Preamp. The bass absolutely sings.

I had the MEC pre replaced with an EMG 3-band pre with a sweepable mid in a Warwick Thumb 5 BO that I had a few years ago. It really "opened" the sound and was very versatile.

I leave mine flat 99.9% of the time, so I can't imagine what a different preamp would do for me

See that's me. I run mine flat...partly because the tone is fine, partly because the EQ doesn't really add much useful stuff.

I have the Duncan pre in my pnut and I love it!

By the way I only boost just a tad bass in single coil, or boost the mods if i really want to stand out.
Only gripe about the Duncan pre is no passive mode
