Telemaster Bass, Version 2.0

After finishing Version 1.0, my wife asked me to build a second one to give to her cousin Alan. Alan was the founder of the teenage band she was in somewhere back in the last century. Alan and the band meant a lot to her. This bass is her thank you gift.

What I started with:

2004 Squier Affinity P-Bass,(actually my first bass.) Parts used include the neck (with the headstock reshaped), neck screws, bridge and strap buttons.

Hipshot Ultralite ½" tuners.

LaBella flat wound strings.

The electronics include a Seymour Duncan SCPB-3 pickup, Alpha 250k mini pots, .100mf capacitor and a Switchcraft output jack.

Miscellaneous stuff includes Stew-Mac three-ply pickguard material, Stratocaster control knobs and a Gotoh string retainer.

Fully assembled this bass weighs 6 pounds, 12 ounces.

I've played this Telemaster, as well as Version 1.0. It's a wonderful sounding bass with nice woody but articulate tone, not to mention excellent ergonomics. It plays very well -- much better than you'd expect from an Affinity neck -- which may be testimony to the low-action set-up and quality components. Both versions are beautifully and expertly crafted, with outstanding wood grain. All in all a lovely instrument. It might be interesting to equip Version 3 with a humbucker for even more warmth.
