lakland 44-02 question

Awesome local shop that I frequent and purchase gear from let me try out (eh-hem...take home) a 44-02 tonight. Sweet bass. I am really impressed with the tone, especially the flexibility in the eq... I feel like I can dial in all sorts of amazing sounds I haven't had access to before without 5 pedals on!

But, the 'finish' has a few "?". 2 of the "DOTS" on the face of the neck need to have some wood filler put around them as there are gaps. The clear finish (transparent) is showing some haze (almost a white glow) around the contours, and the j pickup route has a decent sized nick in it... (almost like the machine didn't make a clean cut and snagged the bass on the way out).

Here's my question... I know its a skyline series bass, and the fit/finish wont be quite as nice as a USA, but is this something any other lakland skyline owners have noticed?

The bass balances better than any I've ever played. The tone is ridiculous... are the small imperfections common?

This is in NO WAY a thread meant to trash lakland. I know they are a great company...

I know the damage didn't happen in the shop as I bumped into the lakland rep in the shop as I watched him drop it off today.

I would say no. I have heard of issues before and some more common than others but what you listed aren't common issues I have heard. I am not sure I would blame the nick on them it could have happened anywhere. And the hazy finish could probably easily be buffed off (maybe I haven't seen it) but the dot thing would bother me.

They are consistently good sounding so if you like it order in another one. For that price it's worth getting one without flaws.

When i had a skyline 55-02 there were no flaws like that. It was all perfect except the pickup cavities of the body was slightly larger than the lh-3 pickups which was a very minor thing

I own a 2007 4402 Deluxe. Natural quilt top with lh3 pickup configuration. My bass is made in Korea but I thought I heard the current ones are made somewhere else but not quite the quality of the Korean made units. I have not seen any Lakeland new with any kind of flaws you described even the newer one. I could not find one thing to criticize on mine when I got it and in fact today it only has one very small ding on the back about half the size of a grain of rice, not through the finish that I did. I am selling mine only because I have the exact same bass but American made. I bought both of them because the quality was so good it was hard to tell which was which. Selling the 4402 because I don't have many gigs.
