Squier CV or Fender P MIM?

Was an easy choice for me...CV hands down....
With that said you may prefer the MIM...
Go down to guitar center and give each a try and do a search on this fourm the topic has been discussed at length...
it all comes down to which YOU like better.

Whatever you do, the general consensus here is don't buy either if you haven't played it.
From what I've seen MIM and the Squier CV can be really great but there are quite a few problem basses in between. So just play a ton of them until you find one that is up to your standard.

Squier CV if you want a more vintage feeling and sounding P with vintage frets. Or better, a MIM classic 50s or roadworn for top quality. Standard MIMs are more modern and have medium frets and a ceramic pickup which sounds less classic fender to me. All are great basses!
That sucks to hear man. I just pieced together a mim p special with a jazz neck and got really lucky. My new fav bass hands down.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I don't think Squier makes the ultimate four string. (unless you're referring to bang for your buck, in which case its a tie with ibanez, and shecter(especially used.)) Of course IMHO
Yeah I'd agree with the above. Neither is even close to an ultimate bass and you won't find any of them at this price point. For that start thinking northwards of $2500-$3000.
I have a CV Jazz and have had a half dozen other Fender Jazz Basses over the years. Some good some not so good. I would say that this CV rivals the best of them for basic construction and the tone with the stock pickups is an acceptable version of what a 60's vintage Jazz Bass sounds like. I think you'll find the MIM will give you a brighter more modern sound.
Play both of them and see which you like best. I bought my CV barely used for a very good price so the decision for me was easy but I still believe that even at their selling prices new the CV is the better bass of the two. Even at equal quality to the MIM the price makes it a better value.
I am totally happy with my 2011 MIM Standard P. It is better or at least as good as any Squier I have played. The vendor I purchased it from did a quality check and set up before they shipped it to me however (Sweetwater). I like the combination of alder body, 1.625 nut width, medium jumbo frets, and color choice better than the Squier offerings. The maple fretboard was also a must for me. I planned on changing all of the hardware and electronics anyway so those were not an issue. That being said, you can pretty much not go wrong with the Squier line but as has been stated above try to play the actual bass you are purchasing before settling on one and taking it home.
