Finally got to try a Sadowsky....

....and in my opinion the hype is not just hype - they really are that good!

Went over to BassCentral yesterday to buy a set of Bergantino HT/EX112 cabinets. When I walked in the door, I thought I died and went to heaven. I mean, you don't see stuff like this at GC or Sam Ash!! Zon, MTD, Alembic, Modulus, Roscoe...you name it, they had it.

While I was there, I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to see what all the Sadowsky talk is about.

It remains to be seen if that was a bad financial move for me. I almost wish I never asked the salesman to try it. It was AWESOME!! I've picked up a lot of Fender's over the years and never had a problem putting them any of them back down before too long. I really can't say that about the Sadowsky, it took every ounce of will power I had not to pull the trigger on it right there and then. I didn't want to let it go.

So I'm not sure if I'm more happy about the Bergantino's I just bought, or more disappointed about the Sadowsky I didn't buy. All I do know is that Sadowsky is still in my head and as someone who has always been happy and proud of his Carvin collection...that really can't be good for me LOL!!

I've been reading many Sadowsky threads and frequenting the website, so I thought it would be appropriate to throw my opinion out here after actually having played a Sadowsky.

BTW - I also have to say the sales staff at BassCentral are second to none. Very accomodating, great people. They encouraged me to try whatever I wanted, yet, I didn't feel pressured to buy anything.

Hey Rob, I blame you and some select other TB'ers for arousing my curiosity with Sadowsky in the first place.;)

I'm trying really hard to forget about it and be content with what I have but history shows that's never been my nature. Once I start thinking about something like this the OCD kicks in and well....that's it.

By the way, congrats on YOUR latest Sadowsky. Sweet bass.

I've played Sadowskys and loved them, too. But I just can't bring myself to buy one when I can get a Fender that does everything I need for a fraction of the price.

Dirty, take some satisfaction in the fact that no matter how good a bass is, no bass makes you play better.

I'm in similar situation. I've played Carvin's for over 20 years, and have been very happy with them. I do wonder sometimes what a Sadowsky or a Lakland would sound or feel like. Would they be worth that much more? I also wonder about electronics when I hear people complain about Carvin. Should I try some Barts in my XB75P?

I also agree with Jimmym. I don't think a more expensive bass is going to make me play any better...

The Sadowsky hype here made me curious for a long time.. I finally got to play an NYC Sadowsky P/J 5, and while it was nice, I just didn't see, feel, or hear $4,000. I understand fully why people do like them, for me though, the price tag is too high for what it is.

it's not supossed to make you play better. A Mercedes doesn't make you a better driver... It just gives you a nicer ride while driving. :bassist:

Graphite necks will do that as well......:rolleyes:
I tend to arc my hand and fingers more when playing them.
I can be sloppier with a fender. (not that it is a excuse...;) )

You beat me to it...that's always been my way of thinking.

Like I mentioned in my first post, a Fender never seems to last very long in my hands. Nothing against Fender of course, all those Fender players can't be wrong - but Fender just isn't for me. For my own personal tatse, nothing I've ever played has felt as good to me as my Carvin's....until of course I picked up that Sadowsky...and I really did NOT want to put it down.

Sure it can. If a bass can make you play worse...

;)

It can help you play better. OTOH there's no guarantee that it "will".
