Do I sell the US P Bass and get a Japan Jazz?

I'm really gasing for a Japanese Jazz bass and can only get it if i sell my american p bass. Is this a wise move? I love the P, but I'm just after a different sound and look at the minute. Help fellow TBers

First ask yourself what you like and dislike about each instrument. You may find that you what you want in the P. Whether it's a wise move or not depends on how well you like the jazz. I'd suggest going out and playing a good number of jazzes and see how you like the overall sound and feel.
Hope this helps...

Tip #1. Don't worry about the "look" of a bass.

As the above poster suggestion, make sure that you like the Jazz tone and feel before you buy or sell.

Consider maybe adding a J pickup to your P bass to get more of that bridge-J tone, or buying a cheapo Jazz before you sell your #1 and drop a wad of cash on another bass.

If your P bass give you all of the tone you need, and doesn't limit your playing in any way, I'd really suggest buying a cheap J to test out first. Usually, selling a bass you like in favor of another leads to "Seller's Remorse."
