Acoustic B200 VS Ampeg BA115

Well, take my opinion with a grain of salt, because the first amp that I had was pretty killer (a 200W Peavey head into a ported 4x12) and sold it off. I then owned a GK800RB that went into a custom built full range cabinet. When I got the Ampeg, it just didnt' live up to what I wanted or had in my head.

I also thought that it was not very well made, as I had performed a modification to mine (allowing me to bypass the 15 and output to a 12" cabinet that I had) and just thought that it could have been made better. That being said, quality-wise, based on the price, I'd imagine that the acoustic and that ampeg are probably about the same. Seriously, play them and decide! Just my thought!

I much prefer the B200R. It's got 100 more watts and doesn't sound so dang bright. But if I were you, I'd hold off until Ampeg's new combos come out. They've been rumored to be coming out any day, and it looks like they're finally going to come out this summer.

I've got a BA115 and have no complaints. The tone leaves a bit to be desired, but the construction is solid and it has never failed me. Pretty rugged little amp, fits nicely in my car, and keeps up with my guitarists half-stacks. If you can get one for $300 or less I'd say its a deal.

Can't say much on the B200, just giving my $.02 on the BA115.

I wish i could buy one of the new ampeg combo's but its to expensive right now (what isnt?) Im only gonna be able to spend about $400 and for that price your not going to get choice sound. I also have the option of buying used, but i am still considering these two amps. I will just have to try em both and see which i like the most. Thanks

I own the ba115. Its my main amp for the moment. And the tone leaves alot to be desired. I had an ashdown mag 300 and ashdown mag 4x10 cab. but someone messed with my ashdown rig and it doesnt work anymore, Which was amazing comparied to the ampeg ba115. Its a pretty durable little combo though. Mine fell from the back of a truck to the street with no damage. Even though I havent used the acoustic. It has to be better then the ampeg. The volume is great for bedroom practice. But in a band setting It leaves alot to be desired. It doesnt have the punch that I want I can get close but it ends up sounding really boomy. I think the reason it sounds like that has to do with the 15 inch speaker. As soon as I can afford it im getting an ampeg svt cl and ampeg 8x10 cab.You might want to save up alittle more and just get an ashdown half stack. Also check out the ashdown combos they are nice too.

I usually avoid GC like the plague, but I had time to kill today. I was very surprised to see a wall of different Acoustic amps and cabs at the ready.
I plugged into a B200H that was powering both a B115 and a B410 and although it wasn't the loudest setup, the sound had major mojo! The EQ is very responsive and colorful.
I didn't bother with the really small combos, but I did try the B200 and really found it to my liking: very vintage, great for R&B, rock, reggae, etc. I'm not a great slapper, but a MM Sterling sounded brilliantly spanky through it.
I wished I had checked them out weightwise, as that's going to be the deciding factor, but I'm going back with my own axe and head for another trial soon!
I prefer this tone to the Ampeg, which I feel is more rock oriented, and it's going to end up being a matter of taste. But it's got me going back!

Well this weekend i did get to try out the B200 and B100. My local GC didn't have a BA115 out. Both the B200 and B100 sound really good to me. Im not the best at describing bass tone. This is my first amp and ive been playing for about 7 months. You can get a wide variety of tones using the notch sweep. Crank the gain and you have a nice growl. Sounds classic to me. They are both pretty loud too. I walked out -$250 and a B100. I chose this because it was a bit smaller(the B200 is pretty large) and i don't need something that big. I'm really happy with it.

EDIT: The weight on the B100 is only 50lbs, but its size is kind of awkward (at least for me). The B200 is nearly 70lbs. Here is a link the the Acoustic site with manuals for each product.

One of our associate engineers is quite an expert on bass guitars and amps.

He did a careful analysis of the B20 when it first came out and was ecstatic about the electronic and audio quality. He bought 2 of them!

If Acoustic has kept this up in the newer models, they are sure to be hits.

It might just be a rumor, but I heard they are coming out with a new version of the 360. I have a B20 and it's a great little amp.
