Bass clef tattoo idea

Hey all,

Im thinking of getting a bass clef tattoo, since I play the bass and always will (if I don't somehow, ill even it out with a treble clef tatto). But just the old bass clef seems a little plain. I wanna do something unique to it, so im asking all you bassists for some help.

Im thinking something funky, almost GREASY, but also laid back, and not too goofy. But some goofyness is good. But how do you do that to a bass clef? Or maybe like incorporate the clef into a really cool design....

Any ideas would be helpful.

I am also getting this as my first tat here in 2 months (upon my 18th birthday) and I was thinking of giving it almost that Old English look, making it look more runed than anything, something that would give it some definate shape and distinctiveness.

I was gonna go with my Left Shoulder Blade---this way, if desired, it can be concealed.

I got this too. It's just a plain bass clef on the inside of my left wrist -- small, classy. I've gotten a lot of compliments. Even my mom, who HATES tattoos, likes it a lot.

Also thinking about getting a yin-yang on my right wrist in a similar location/position/size, too. While I don't subscribe particularly to any religion, I find that I admire a lot of the teachings of Taoism and that I find a lot of my beliefs run parallel to its precepts.

Also, if necessary, the clef (and eventually the yin-yang) can be concealed with long sleeves for those who are not tattoo-friendly. This was especially helpful in hiding the bass clef from my parents when I visited home when it wasn't entirely healed (and hence looked terrible.)

Aaron is right. His tattoo is damn cool.

I'm thinking about getting a small one on the palm of my hand. Near my thumb. Denson Angulo was my inspiration!

I know a guy that got a bass clef on a staff with a couple notes on it. He was all proud and showed me.

I asked him what notes they were...he paused, looked at it, and told me what two notes they were (I forget). Then I ruined his day. I reminded him that his name was ED and that any two notes OTHER THAN E and D means he f@#$ed up a great opportunity to personalize his tat.

He was crushed.

Random on topic story time.

Going over the circle of fifths/fourths(whatever you want to call it) in class. A bassist who played in the school jazz band got a tatoo of the circle on his shoulder. In the middle, a treble cleft. When asked why it wasn't a bass clef, he had this to say...

"...I was drunk."

I also like the idea of a small bass clef on the inside of the left wrist. Problem is it might look bad when it comes to having a career, etc. Anytime you didnt wear long sleeves itd show. Shame that theres a stereotype against tattoos.
