Bossa basses are handmade in Japan and are pretty rare in the US. You can check out their history/products at www.bossa-usa.com. This bass has a stained ash back with a sick spalted maple top. 34" Scale, 18mm spacing at the bridge. 1.75 at the nut - super fast neck that plays itself. Just set it up the action very low with a new set of DR Marcus Miller Fat Beams - plays and sounds superb. Sounds very much like a vintage jazz but with no noise and enhanced clarity...midrange cuts through like a hot knife through tofu.
Weighs 9.7 lbs and is one of the best balanced basses I've ever owned - no neck dive even when sitting - just stays right on your leg with no movement.
Handwound pickups with matched pickup covers and their own 18V preamp. Controls are: Volume, Blend, Bass, Mid, Treble. Has a unique Coil Tap Balancer Switch - in down position, either humbucking pickup can be selected via the Pickup Balance control in the normal way (i.e. neck or bridge). When the Coil Tap Balancer Switch is in up position, the Pickup Balance control selects both coils and the inner single coils.
There are three internal trim pots to voice the preamp/EQ as well:

R-Pickup Gain
F-Pickup Gain
Love the bass, but it sounds too close to my Zon Sonus 5 (modern vintage jazz type sound). I would like to trade this bass for a bass of similar value (requirements are 34" scale, 17-18mm spacing). I would love to get a Modulus Flea/FB 5-String...miss mine. Would also be interested in Status basses, Zon Legacy, pre-EB Musicmans, other boutique basses (as long as their 34" Scale 5-strings). Would also take a Stingray 5 + cash. Comes in a standard SKB style case. This bass would run around $3K new with the optional spalted top.
