That Finland poster is double plus awesome. The Wikipedia article that the image is pulled from is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_War

Finland won the Winter War mostly with snipers and Molotov cocktails. The whole world was watching the Soviets try to take strategic territory that they were going to possibly need in the upcoming conflict after asking for it politely didn't work.

It's very likely that combat in Europe during WW2 wouldn't have ended nearly as soon as it would have if it wasn't for Finland winning there, as the Soviets' failure to win gave Hitler the idea that he should launch Operation Barbarossa in an effort to secure the Soviets' natural resources.

Sadly, after the Nazis defeat and subsequent withdrawal from Finland, the Soviets went in with a retaliatory strike and took most of the province of Karelia with some American assistance.

At the time that the Winter War was going on, several people from around the world were signing up to fight alongside the Finnish army against the Soviets. One of them was Christopher Lee, the actor who played (among other things) Count Dooku in the Star Wars prequels, but the Finns never let him into combat.
