As an owner of two Tobias basses I often wondered why Michael
changed from 24 fret neck thrus to 21 fret bolt ons?
Not that there is any thing wrong with that but it is a radical departure.

Thanks. Regarding Mike Tobias' change of approach: neck-throughs were sort of the "mark of custom/hand-made" basses in the late 80s and early 90s. There was kind of this notion that neck-through = better/more refined. A lot of people (Mike included) seem to have come to the conclusion that neck-through does not equal better and a lot of players prefer the sound of bolt-ons anyway (although there is still a debate amongst many as to whether or not there is an audible difference between the two designs). As for the 21 frets vs 24 frets, Mike builds both (and he will still build you a neck-through if that's what you want). I personally prefer 21 frets for slapping and I don't really miss the three extra notes that a 24 fret bass provides.

Just to clarify - this bass will not promote tooth decay.
