The first pic is of Pat Wilkins with his new Short Scale Bass. This is a really nice Sounding & Playing short scale bass and I think short scale fans are going to like it. If you're at the NAMM check it out downstairs in Hall E, the booth is in the 1400 aisle.

Looks nice. Is the body chambered on that bass. Zero fret?

That is the first one and no it's not chambered. I asked Pat about that and he said he was considering chambering them in the future. Actually it wasn't really what I would call heavy at all and it balanced very well. This one did not have a zero fret but I know he offers that as an option.

Update: My bass was ready today, so I got to try this out!!

The bass got painted faster than my parts are in, but when I went to go pick it up today I asked Pat about it. He welcomed me to play it out, which I gladly did.

Overall impression: 30.5 scale is VERY comfortable. Body is nicely weighed, not too heavy at all. No real neckdive. Amazing tone. Barky J-bass to smooth P-bassish tones from the neck pickup. Dunno what pups/pre he put in there, but Pat done right! We talked about him as a builder, and I played out one more of his basses (A 5 string MM/J) with Nordstrand pickups. Damn that bass was loud acoustically, and just felt great.

Very cool cat, very cool basses.

And a cool lil' factoid, this bass fits in a guitar gig bag, so you can take it onto an airplane in the overhead. Yo.
