Looks like you have a Euro 4 there...which has an all-maple body, opposed to the newer Euro 4LX which are Alder with a Walnut strip. I have the exact same bass and trust me, for anyone who is considering buying this, this is a STEAL. These earlier Euro Spectors were very, very similar to their US counterpart, minus the slimmer neck profile and preamp. Bump for an awesome bass!

I was thinking that too from the serial number. I also have one of the "mythical" Euro4's. I don't know what they did different (other than the Aguilar pre), but this bass is far nicer than my old NSCRFM bass, any EuroXL I've ever tried, and is easily on par (if not better) than my Kramer era NS2 . Too bad they didn't stick with these for the Czech Republic line. The best import they've made IMHO. If I had the extra $ laying around I'd snatch this in a minute at that price.

Someone buy this before I get myself in trouble.

I have a plum/deep purple one just like this. Is the only way to tell whether it's a Euro or not is by the serial number? I thought mine was a CR one.

BTW, if you'd like to trade for mine, I'd love to have the blue color. I'm in a suburb of Dallas, so I'm close by.

itdoes feel and sound better than the other 4 spector euros ive had in the past ...and the top on this bass is nice...

Here's how to tell (Revised to reflect new info):

1993 - early 1999
NS-4CR, NS-5CR model numbers.
"SSD" Stuart Spector Design name and logo.
Dot fingerboard markers.
Most had EMG BT active tone controls.
Serial numbers are just 4 digits.

Mid 1999 'transition'.
Continued NS-4CR, NS-5CR model numbers.
Restart original "SS" Spector name and logo.
Addition of mother of pearl crown inlays.
Serial numbers are still 4 digits.

2001
Addition of the Aguilar OBP-1 circuit (at the end of the year).
Serial numbers are started over and have "NB" in front (NBxxxx).
Start model NAMES Euro4/5.

2001, or 2002...sometime early this decade.
Bridge changed to shiny polished gold.
At that time bridge material changed to zinc brass alloy, from solid brass.

2002
Beginning incorporation of the Spector TonePump circuit.

2004
Start of Euro4LX model (alder back, walnut slice, maple top).



So, essentially if you've got a Czech Republic neck thru with an NBxxxx serial number that has solid body wings, you should have a "Euro4 or 5". Once the split tops started happening, that's the EuroLX series. I don't know how high the numbers got by the time of the EuroLX switch, but his is lower than many other Euro4's I've seen (mine is only NB0508).

its the tonepump preamp....thats what pj rubal said too but he said thats why its a early 02 they were putting tonepumps in them in early 02 ....thats what he said anyway

The Aguilar is real easy to spot as it has the emblem on it. The Tone Pump is just black with no markings. The info I posted above supposedly came form PJ (which states no Tone Pumps until 03'), but it wouldn't be the first time Spector's history (in print) was a little off.

The easiest way to know is to look under the hood.
