If you are looking for upright tone without the upright size..this is it.
Takamine TB10 with spruce top and figured maple back and sides. These come out of Takamine's custom shop and are great handmade basses. The tube preamp is a stroke of genius! It really allows you to dial in that upright tone. It is easy to play because it is still 34" scale. You can play it standing up like an upright with the end pin extended or sitting down with it in your lap like a guitar. And is comes with a VERY cool custom alligator print hard case. These basses do not come around very often as the Takamine Custom Shop makes these in very limited numbers.
edit: Some people have asked about the specs on the neck...It is 1 3/4" at the nut and 2 5/8" at the 24th fret. Very similar to what you have on an electric. So, the neck is very playable and an easy transition for electric players.
