I'm reposting my Wal mkII 5 string Scotts Burr poplar faces, mohagony core.

The original For Sale thread is here:

First, the bad:
This bass is NOT cosmetically pristine. I am the second owner and had the instrument shipped over from England.

In the interest of full disclosure, (1) the wood on the face above the B string is quite worn and can be seen as the lighter spots above the pickups in the photos. There are also some scratches on the back of the bass, but they are not as severe as the wear on the front. (2) The holes that hold the back plate in were stripped and re-drillled by the previous owner. It still holds tight against the body and you'd never know the difference unless you took a good look. (3) There is also some wear along the side of the body on the top rear bout. It can be seen in the last pic of the series.

I can send detailed photos of the body where most of the wear is for interested parties.

Now, the good:
The bass sounds and plays perfectly. The volume pot was a bit scratchy, so I had the electronics professionally inspected and cleaned. The on-board preamp is powerful enough to drive most power amps. Like all Wals of this type, it is active, and has both an XLR out as well as 1/4" out.

The neck is straight and superb. The lacquer on the back is as close to perfect as it gets. The frets are barely worn and the neck intonates very well. The rosewood fingerboard is grainy and in excellent condition. The bass weighs about 9lbs on my bathroom scale. It has Schaller strap locks (and I will of course send the original strap knobs as well). It comes with a thick brown leather strap that matches the finish on the bass well. It also comes with a heavy ATA style road case, custom molded.

All told, it's a Wal

Why am I selling it?
I don't gig it enough. I also own a 65 precision bass and that's what most gigs call for. I've gigged this bass less than 5 times since I've owned it in the last year and a half or so. A couple with a singer/songwriter and a few with a Disco/Funk cover band.

I'm asking $5300 shipped CONUS overnight and fully insured. Sorry no trades. Paypal is OK. PM me with reasonable offers.

I had one like these but with with African padouk...great basses but heavy :-) Good luck with the sale.
I planned to buy this one during the British auction but I didn't because I thought that he only preferred local pick-up.
Lucky you !

thanks wombatboter,

It is "heavy" in more ways than one!

He did only prefer local pick-up; fortunately I had a family member living in London at the time who picked it up for me and sent it over. I was relieved when I unlocked the case to find what I'd been hoping for.

bump.

taking offers.

if you're in New England and interested in checking it out send a PM.

Really stellar bass here, and with Wals back in production one might consider ordering a fretless neck for this bad boy. (This is something I've considered recently)

Hey fellow TBers

I'm putting my Wal out there again as a feeler.

I played a vintage fender jazz that's calling my name, so I'm going to see if I can sell my Wal (which I still love) to fund that purchase.

I had a bunch of pics up -- I'll re-post those within the next day or so -- but I've also dropped the price down to 5200 shipped overnight via UPS in a hard shell ATA style case, custom fitted for this bass. It will be fully insured.

I'm kinda open to offers, but keep in mind the shipping quote I got from UPS is between 250 and 300 dollars.

I'd happily entertain local pickup offers.

Your pics from the original thread have disappeared, any chance of reposting at least a few pictures?

The Wal was set up by Jim Mouradian here in Boston and intonates REALLY well.

If we do Money Order or certified bank check (to avoid paypal fees) I could do 5k shipped. That's overnight via UPS air fully insured.
