Alright, show em to me.
Your ugly, your functional, your smashed wishbasses. I mean, any of them, new or old, and if you know the wood, tell us...

If there's anyone who was on either of the two "Let's Buy A Wish threads" who has pics of them,.

If possible, please post the serial numbers of the wishbasses too, so we can see the timeline.

Here's mine (and I'll post a few more of others that I don't own, which I have pics of - later):

643 is spalted maple, persimmon board; pear, maple, and walnut stringers
666 is pear with a burl maple top and mahogany accent line, persimmon board; walnut and purpleheart stringers
712 is ambrosia maple and walnut, purpleheart board; maple, walnut and purpleheart stringers

Here's mine, but it isn't finished yet. I'm in the process of putting a padauk control cavity cover on it and an OBP-1 inside. The neck is maple and purple heart with padauk wings and an ipe fingerboard. I really worked my ass off on this thing. IT WILL KILL!:bassist:

Added the maple veneer control cover and the guy I bought it from put in a Seymour Duncan Basslines Quarterpounder pick up. I also added the matching spalted maple knob.

Added the maple veneer control cover, burl maple knob, and the vintage cream Dimarzio model j pick up. Sounds tasty now. I practically had to rip the emg select that wish put in - in half... to get it out!

This was my own design that I had Wishnevsky build, which was my take on a combination of two of his styles, the lobe; and a peanut version that someone had modified (which had the horn like that).

Hmm, let's see... where do I start...

Basically...it was a piece of junk!
  • The Finger board started to separate from the neck.
  • every time you changed strings, you had to 're-set' the bridge.
  • no truss rod!
  • the strings didn't even line up with the poll-pieces.
  • the neck was thicker than an upright.
  • he didn't even use a straight-edge or ruler or a template on any part of the bass.
  • could have gotten more use out of a $199 MIM Fender Jazz
  • the control plate was jagged and had serious gaps.
  • the string ferrules and spacing was not close to evenly spaced.
  • it actually had termite holes in 4 places.
  • when I received it in the mail, he pachaged it so poorly, that a portion of the headstock was poking through the top of the box and was chipped.
  • the dot markers that he used were just nails, and one of them had come through the finger board ("OUCH!!").
  • there wasn't even a radius on the FB.
  • the tone wasn't very "happening" at all.
  • ... it was basically unusable on any gig I was on.

Back when I got that, I wasn't on TB and I thought, "hey, it's got to be halfway decent".... :hmm:

apparently, on Wishnevsky's blog, he says he really doesn't like making customs... he just does it as a courtesy. He would rather make the ones he knows how to make. I think #15 is an early model since he passed #750 recently. I imagine that he's gotten better at making them, but they do leave a bit to be finished - yet they are functional. They are not the machine made, or custom luthier produced variety.

I think this was something that he started out doing as a hobby and/or to make some money, but does it in an inexpensive way.
I like them just for the art side of it. so that was what this thread was supposed to be about. To show them wishbasses.
