Ampeg V-4BH and direct out issues

The other night, we were playing at a club we don't play very often. We plugged my V-4BH head into the board with the line out, and the sound guy immediately came up and asked if it had a ground lift on it. I said that it didn't, and he brought up a G.L./DI type box and I went directly to the board for the show.

My question is this- would this be something related to the head, or the clubs pa/wiring? The head is in perfect shape as far as I know, just had it retubed a couple of months ago, but this was the first time I used the XLR out for a while.

The head is probably fine, (I've got one, too, love it), it's a matter of the clubs wiring. The amp and PA were probably on different circuits, and that's where a ground lift comes in handy. Alot of older buildings have less than perfect wiring, and something as simple as one plug wired in reverse can cause noise and other problems. I wouldn't worry at this point, I'm sure your amp is fine.
