I picked up this Sadowsky in a local trade. It is a fantastic bass, but you can't keep them all. I thought this one was going to stick around for a while, but it isn't going to earn it's keep, so off it goes. I'd like to get $2600 for it. Specs from the Sadowsy site:

FINISH | Natural
BODY | Swamp Ash
FINGERBOARD | Maple, 12" Radius, 1 7/8" Nut Width
PICKGUARD | B/W/B
HARDWARE | Chrome
PICKUPS | Sadowsky Single Coil
WEIGHT | 8.55 lbs. (3.88 kg)

I'm not looking for trades at the moment.

The bass is in good condition, although it has been played. It was never abused, but there are a few bumps and bruises. I can get my own pics up soon.

THAT'S MY OLD BASS!!!!

I purchased it new in May of 2004 and sent it back to Sadowsky for consignment about six months ago. I thought that it ended up in Dallas...

For anyone considering a Sadowsky Vintage 5, I can honestly tell you that it's a nice one. The neck is perfect; it's a real good player. I sold it because I preferred to pull my money out of it; I was content with a upgraded MIM Fender 5 that I had bought as a beater.

I played the crap out of it for the three years that I owned it while I was in a busy 10 piece RnB band. It was always well taken care of. There were no major or noticeable dings on it when I sold it; just fret and pickguard wear, but not bad. Also, Roger touched up the frets before it was re-sold.

The bass was capable of really low action 1/16" on the G string with no buzzing when neck was adjusted almost straight, with just slight (1/64") relief. I tried lots of different strings on it and light guage Ernie Ball Super Slinky Nickel (set #2884) sounded better than all others including Sadowsky, Pedulla, etc.

The minor ding on the B string side of the neck near the 10th fret was done by a soundman. The one or two dings in the body that I made in the body are so hard to see because of the wood grain, you might never know that they're there. One is between the control plate and bridge; it's almost impossible to see. The headstock had no dings on it when I sold it, believe it or not.

This is a great opportunity to save $1,000 or more, so go for it, if you want a Sadowsky. It had the original better Ultralite case, that's no longer available, when I sold it as well.

You're better off with a used one since the wood is old enough that you know what you're getting and the wood's not going to do anything weird. There's a reason Sadowsky Guitars went from a two year to only a one year warranty on their basses.

Thanks for the added info. It's always a hoot to see an old personal bass up for sale. This one was only in my possesion for a few weeks. I was looking to sell another bass, and instead picked this up in trade. It was a nice easy local deal with a super cool TBer. I always wanted to check out a Sadowsky, and I'm glad I did. I am actually going to stay in the Sadowsky family, but decided that a Metro might be nice for me. I also prefer a rosewood or pau ferro board.

This bass does kill though. It is very comfortable and lightweight. It felt like home from the downbeat.

I still have the lightweight Sadowsky case and all the fixin's.

Very cool.

Pau Ferro is also my favorite fingerboard wood. I think that this is why I preferred Nickel strings on this bass; Maple's bright enough and doesn't need Stainless. The light weight Ash with Maple fingerboard is definately a good combo; it's a classic.

You know it's funny, my fretless 1996 MIJ Fender Jazz was recently up for sale on TB by some Swiss guy that bought it from me through a consignment at Bass Northwest. It really is a small world.
