Details

I listened to a guy play last night and his tone was clear and piano like all the way down to the B-string. I asked him what kind of strings he uses and he said he uses Carvin strings - they're inexpensive and last a good while. I checked here on TB and people generally think they're good strings for the money and they're made by LaBella.

4-string sets are $10 and 5-string sets are $13 - the only kicker is the shipping is $11. The good thing is that's $11 for the whole order. If I can get a five set order going then 4-string sets would be $13 with shipping and 5-string sets would be $16 with shipping.

Anybody interested? I could place the order and then you pay me back for the strings. I would mail you your set(s) as soon as they arrive.

If I can get five orders then the $11 order shipping splits to $2.20 per set. It would probably cost me $.80 to ship via USPS CONUS.

4-string nickel or stainless: $13.90 shipped.

5-string nickel or stainless: $16.90 shipped. All of these prices will go down the more sets people want to order.

6-string nickel or stainless: $19.90 shipped.

Here are the links to the Carvin pages for these strings:

I've already got bubble mailers. Shipping for a single set should be about a dollar, so I'd be happy to ship a 5-string set to you $16.50, assuming we could wrangle up a 5 set order. I'm thinking I might just keep two sets for myself, so all I need is three more orders. More than three would be great!

But then you have to add shipping to your get them to each other unless you do this local?

USPS shipping in an envelope First Class would be cheap.

Interested?

Okay, here's where we stand.

I'm down for two sets.

dcr is down for at least one.

Grateful is down for one set.

Anyone else? The more the better for reducing shipping.

dcr said he's been using these strings for twenty years and they're his go-to strings. That's a great endorsement!

I think this is how I'm going to swing this. I will wait a few more days to see if people are interested. When the time comes to place the order you can Paypal the money and a description of the number and kinds of sets you want, and the address to mail them to. I will place the order with my credit card. When the strings come in I will package up your strings, take the packages (envelopes) to the post office, and send them off. If all goes well we'll have to do this again sometime!

One of the guys here made a good point about Paypal fees that I hadn't thought about. If someone sends me $13 the fees are going to make it about $12.10 and I'm going to have to cover that extra in the order.

Would it be a deal breaker if you all added $.90 per order to cover Paypal fees?

That would make a 4-string set $13.90, a 5-string set $16.90, and a 6-string set $19.90, but then I wouldn't be paying your Paypal fees.

Am I missing something? I went to carvin.com, and the only thing they list is a 4 string set in their gift shop. Where is the 5 and 6 string sets located on their website?

I've been a big fan of Carvin strings particularly the satinless steel 5 string sets for years now. Glad to see more folks have discovered them. One thing that I do is buy 4 string sets and leave the older B string until the next string change. Saves you a few dollars. Just an idea.
