I am looking for a lightweight quality built bass.
Needs to be no heavier than 6.5lbs.

A solidbody bass that is no more that 6.5 lbs. is rare, unless you get a custom made out of basswood.
Semi-hollow basses like Hofner and Rob Allen will be around that weight.

MTD Kingston are consistently lightweight. 4-strings should be between 7 and 8 lbs. See here:

Also if you have a bit of cash a custom build Cliff Bordwell will not only be gorgeous but will weigh that amount.

I have one of those and it's the lightest bass I've ever held. It doesn't seem to have any mass at all, but still sounds great.

I have one too. great bass. Nice to have decent lefty basses in that pricerange.
Not a huge fan of those Elixirs though they seem to peel out of their "ultra hi-fi" coating. going to get some low-riders to replace them.
The two I tried, one black and one white, were considerably heavier than my 6 pounder.
Old Fender P lytes are supposed to be between 6.5 and 7.5 pounds. Supposedly they have neck twist issues, but if they do then I imagine all MIJ basses from that time period do.
I had one, quality seemed really good with it as far as tolerances and fretwork. Might need to replace the pups though.

Peavey t-40......but you have to cut it in half first....

I play a 7-string from another of the "organic design" luthiers, Mark Eshenbaugh, and it weights almost precisely 6.5 lbs (my Conklin GT7 weighs double that, for sake of contrast).

I had a 6-string Soundgear from '91 or so a while back that was absurdly light, as have been nearly all the Fender Aerodynes I've played.
CB and Rob Allen are my first 2 choices for something light, especially if you need something that light.
