'red'wood jazz

Just refinished my 'new' jazz bass.
Specs.
B hefner body in swamp ash
MM neck
fender 60's pups
Audere preamp
fender threaded rod saddled bridge
finish suppies by stewmac,minwax, olympic.
final coats in waterborne satin poly.
I started by sandblasting the body.
A coat of olympic ebony exterior stain.
sanded down after a day of drying to leave just the open grain black. mixed some stewmac cherry red dye w/ rubbing alcohol. 3 coats of min wax sanding sealer brushed on. 5 coats of minwax water poly in satin brushed on , sanding between coats. 4rth coat was sanded to 1500 then 5th coat was air sprayed.

I love it...totally hot stick, brother.

I'm a little disappointed, though, because back in the early 80s I bought a '65 Jazz from a pawn shop in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I believe I paid $450 for it if I recall correctly. Even then, that was a low price for that bass, but somebody had (badly) given a coat of what looked like bright yellow house paint. It was one of my first refins and I kept it natural wood but stained it a kind of redwood look.

I sold it or traded it a few years later and have always hoped to see it again pop up somewhere.

I thought this might be that time, but no.

*weeps bitter tears but still congratulates eots on his beauty of a J*
